Skinning for Hide

How do I craft a Skinning Knife/Dagger to get Hide from animals? The only Daggers I have so far are the dual stone ones you get early on, can't see anywhere how I get a Skinning tool.

Am I missing something?

You can't until you can get iron, which isn't easily found anywhere in the south. There's a couple areas in the middle of the desert, but that's about it (that I know of).

You're best bet is to just run all the way up to the north and out of the desert right from the start (if you can get lucky and not get hit by a sandstorm).

You can use a hatchet in he meantime but it's painful to harvest hide with it, I spent all my time roaming the desert near the corrupt desert and manage get a skinning knife, just be warned on pvp servers people will kill for that knife

Its because they have kids testing.. Who just log in and admin to 60. Its apparent they have not played from 1-20..., or 1-30 for that matter. Done this about 30 times and any developer saying you dont need a STONE SKINNING KINFE is a lair.

Singleplay is bad enough, but in mulitplayer your basically screwed. The way the game is currently set up you can get Heavy armor, beforfe light armor. due to drops.. FreeBee...boxes they placed in the game.

Honestly, I think someone forgot and someone mistakenly removed it and forgot to add it back in... cause they are busy.. its in the admin selection after all... Doesnt help on mulitplayer though.. You can be 30 or more before you can get Light Leather Armor.. buy by that time your using Med/Heavy anyaway....

Its not like you can really test anyways... as a pack of 60s hang around the start area on the test servers repeatedly killing everyone else and destorying everything and chasing them out, so they can be the only ones on it. lol

And you wonder why you dont have a Stone Sknning Kinfe. One of the first Fing tools man ever invented.. Cause assclowns run the test servers and no one is monitoring them.

So Coarse Fiber Armour is not the level 1 - 20 armour? I made a Bow, and collected 57 feathers. I then harvested 21 Hide and made a Bed. I should have made a second Sealed Waterskin, that is more important at level 13 than a bed. But a Stone Skinning Knife is needed long before getting iron ore. I agree @EvilWays a developer who says otherwise is a liar.

I will try and make a second Sealed Waterskin, Furnace, and 5x Fiber Bedrolls and see if I can make it to the Western Iron Nodes. I probably can't. Have no idea what that part of the map looks like in the new world.

Anyone think this Combat Upgrade is the C.E. New Game Experience (NGE)?

The game is supposed to be a struggle at the start and then gets exponentially easier as you gain new and better technology, as any survival game should be. Iron takes no time at all to get to, especially with them removing most of the mob spawns in between spawn and iron nodes and nerfing the existing ones to the point where you can kill most without taking any damage. Cross the river, run north, TA DA! iron. Why you would go all the way to the western nodes for your starter iron is beyond me, but if that's what you are attemtping to do, that is a choice you are making and not the game's fault.

The skinning knife requires very low level to learn to craft which you will get to in very short order between the 10-15 journey steps you gain between spawn and reaching the main play area, and the first few kills you make.

Not everything in a survival game is going to be handed to you.

Anyone knows or been able to skin anything? I have no clue what it's called or which button to use. I feel like something is broke, or maybe I'm just over looking it.

There is a feat called "Journeyman Butcher" in the survival tree available at level 15 that will give you the recipes for the iron skinning knife and iron cleaver. Those tools will give skins and meat from animal corpses, respectively. There are improved versions of the feat for steel, hardened steel, and starmetal verions of the tools as well, each giving better yields.

I'am aware of that, thanks for your response, my problem is I can't seem to find the key for the action of skinning. Is like all I can do is punch it...lol or chop it, no skinning.

You simply equip the skinning knife and click the corpse as you would with a hatchet or other tool. Your character will perform a fairly brutal gutting animation and in 1-2 uses you will have skinned the corpse. There's no special key or button to skin, other than equipping the knife as your mainhand.

If by any chance you can't craft the dagger, using the resources and blacksmith bench, having the proper level and etc, it's because you have installed mods that are conflicting.. Had to remove and go through them one by one to see which was doing all the damage
