How do you acquire a skinning dagger?
On chapter 3 on your journy it says to use a skinning dagger to get hides. However I'm unable to find how to do this, even searching on the web. Any info is appreciated.

Ok thank you. Found it as Journeyman butcher under survival in the feats tab. On a side note why couldent the devs just place it in the tannery and make a stone one?

I think because hide isn't really "Needed" until later, so hiding it behind iron seemed right, plus skinning with stone would likely butcher the hide.

What armour did you have when you first mined Iron nodes? Before the C.E. CU / NGE I would make a complete set of light armour and have 3 sealed waterskins to make it near the Iron nodes. I'm presently level 13 and have 9 hide and the original waterskin. I estimate I will be level 30 before I can make my first complete set of light armour, and second waterskin then I can go mine iron.

@Kashra Fall, what do you mean hide isn't "Needed?" Isn't hided need for light armour? That is needed for mining Iron? Or are you saying that Coarse Fiber Armour is enough to get near Iron nodes?

you can harvest hide from animals and humans by hitting them with an axe or pickaxe but a skinning knife is slightly more effective compared to that. if you harvest everything you kill using an axe, you should not have any problems with hide for the first 25 levels

From what you are saying it seems to me that you are going on big trips to get resources. I found it easier to build a number of small bases near resources I want. For example find an iron rich area and build a small base. Put a bed roll and some chests in there. You then have a safe place to mine from. Also there is a lot of hide around. Kill antelope (they die with one head shot from a bow) for lots of hide.
