I found out how to increase tether distance!
It's only in the Testlive right now, but, once you make a co-op world, go into the server settings, click on "Make me admin" and poof, an option below allows the tether to increase to 54000. You can go from the starting zone, on the broken road, all the way to an overhang across the river. Quite a large area, and allows actual game play.

THANK ME LATER FELLOW EXILES! ENJOY CO-OP WITH FRIENDS NOW!

The server uses very little resources. Would it not be easier just to have a server and client running on the same PC and have no tether to worry about? Sure you have to download the server version as well, but its a lot better then running co-op mode

I can't speak for Maverick, but my private server crashes in the middle of trying to load structures. It's made it where I have to modify a version of the cleanup tool to wipe only placed structures and items, and it's not really worth it to try to progress anywhere then. I've had to opt for non-dedicated for the time being too.

My PC isn't... all that good tbh. A GTX 750ti 2GB Windforce, 8gigs of DDR4 RAM @ 2400MHz, 5 megabye down internet speed, 1 megabyte up and a Ryzen 3 1300x CPU ._. I doubt I could run a server AND play,

From the starting point of the desert's road end to the overpass of the first oasis/riverside. With full tether, your friend can be quite a ways away from you.

Now if only Co-op would work!

boy thank you very much i m kinda searching the conan code to see if i can manually give it a bigger limit or remove entirely but that would be way hard as the game was intent this way in singleplayer
also for people for low end PC is quite hard even to host a singleplayer game imagine a server it's way better to have the tether infinite or at least really big so people can go far

The issue is that Funcom bloated their netcode (animations, facings, other unnecessary root-accessing anti-cheats, etc) and realized they can force more server rentals that way. It has nothing to do with hardware, it simply overwhelms bandwidth. A NASA server would still struggle. Scumbag company performing scumbag maneuvers.

Damn did not expect a post from 6 years ago to be revived LOL.

Yeah Funcom really screwed the pooch with this game and It's co-op. Same with ARK Survival Ascended. They have the same tether system last I saw. I don't know if it changed with Scorched Earth or not, but it was not a great experience.

Forcing tether to force server rentals is really scummy and bad faith.

the 52000 tether distance is still ass wtf

Tether distance doesnt matter. If the host dies like 3 feet away, the other player has to reload and go back to base because YOU died. Its totally unacceptable. The only reason its coded that way to to increase server sales.

Man this post is suddenly seeing so much attention all of a sudden.

Yes, 54k is still not the greatest, especially if host dies and you're outside of that radius. It does push server sales. But, 6 years ago, I was just more happy with finding a way to increase it more. Look at the date of this post. April 2018. The game was still in It's infancy then, in early access no less before it went full release in May 2018.

Look at the date of this post man. This was back in April of 2018. Early Access, before the Full May Release in 2018. This was back when increasing tether was sought after in the community.

No you misunderstand. The co op player can be standing 5 feet from the host, the host will teleport to his bed, say again, 5 feet away, the co op player will have to reload even though he only moved 5 feet when the host died.

Heck of necro, folks.

Max tether is better than the default but it's still an issue. The best way to deal with the tether issue if you are playing co-op with just a few other people is to eliminate it completely. As noted in the first reply on this thread you can do this by hosting a dedicated server on the PC you're using to play the game instead of playing it in co-op mode. It's easy to do, just Google the instructions. I've done this on a low end gaming laptop and it worked just fine with me and two others connecting to the server.

Can you run dedicated and a playable instance as well?
