Food spoilage
Hey, new to the game, really enjoying it!
Think I've hit a bug though.
My food is spoiling, some cases in a matter of minutes, despite the timer being set to the lowest rate possible. Think I have like 5 hours on the meat chunks, but any time I leave the location of where its stored, I come back a few minutes later and a bunch have gone putrid.

Its annoying >.>

Early on make thrall feeder and put food there, the timers are much longer there.

Well, it is a Survival game ... the process of obtaining, cooking, maintaining food stocks is one of the early elements you have to learn to deal with.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying, but it doesn't take too long before you get a feel for where you can quickly and easily harvest large quantities of food.

And ... even the putrid food has a use.

Putrid food can be placed in a compost bin.
Compost bins quickly produce Large Grubs.
Large Grubs can be cooked (at a stove) to provide more food.
They can also be used to bait fishing traps.
Fish can be cooked an eaten.
Fish can also be placed in a Fluid Press to produce Oil.
Oil is extremely valuable.

I've been keeping the cooked food in the Thrall feeder and the timers are longer...

But any time I keep food anywhere else, even with a five hour shelf life, they're turning rancid in minutes instead. I get there's going to be decay, I expect that in a survival game, but what I expect is for the timers to be accurate. I literally walk away from the station and return and there's already spoilage, despite it being cooked literally minutes before.

Its happening in the cooking stations and the Thrall wheel, but not the Thrall feeder, so far those timers are unaffected, but those timers are significantly longer so it might happen eventually there too.

I don't know if its a setting on my game only, or if anyone else has this happen too. I'm stumped.

Hm... I dunno, that does seem fast. Not really something I think about too much, but ... I do usually play in SP

dude there are freezers
just saying
the point where food spoilage realy matters is way past the point you should be able to build freezers

OMG I get it. The game has mechanics.
What I am SAYING is this is not working properly for me in my current game. A timer of five hours expires in five minutes.
I KNOW its a survival game.
I KNOW there are freezers I can see them in the bloody tech tree.
The times are borked in anything other than the feeder.
THATS what I'm saying.
Trying to work out if its a bug or a problem my side.

something tells me you set the server settings in the wrong direction... never really have a problem with putrid unless i need it for compost.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug that you have to deal with until you get the freezer.

Whenever a player is not in the area the timers seem to get messed up.

The food timers go bonkers as soon as you leave the base. Easiest to observe when cooking several stacks of steaks. Only work around I know is loiter in your house and pester your thralls till its done; then putting it in the thrall feeder till one can build a fridge.

I changed the slider (in case I did have it backwards) but the timers got shorter, so I had it correctly set.

Thanks for confirming its not just me tho! Still new and there's a lot of settings to look through, I just wanted to confirm I hadn't missed anything.

It's not game breaking - not like I can' harvest a bunch and I cook it myself (no cook yet) and put it in the feeder soon as its done. Like I said, its annoying but I can live with it.

One thing I have noticed is that cooked low quality food such as the steak, spoils much quicker than the raw meat. Also I have much less spoilage with a stack mod as you get stacks of 500 that spoil 1 at a time

That's how it was going in the beginning, had some spoilage but one or two here and there. Now, I can't even keep a steak in the wheel of pain without coming back to find its stopped because the stored meat has gone bad. If I put more in, I loose the lot.

I did that too with my first thrall till I discovered the culinary displeasures of gruel (https://conanexiles.fandom.com/wiki/Gruel). Best farmed with a sickle; gives massive stacks and it totally the Wheel Of Pain (why does its acronym is censored?) food version of fire and forget :)

@Antares is totally right about using gruel in the wheel (acronym censored because it's a racial derogatory similar to the N word and others). Never use meat in a wheel, always gruel. A couple of minutes with a sickle and you can get 1k gruel as fuel for the wheel.

Because it's a racial slur, which was applied to people of Italian decent or extraction and commonly in use in the U.S. in the early 20th Century.
