Placing roof pieces (or ceiling tiles) have a basic range limit depending on how much stability the main supporting structure has.
Usual limit in a straight line from an anchor point, without support from underneath it is about 4 pieces. You won't be able to place a 5th piece unless you can support it from underneath via pillars.
One possible way to get around that (if you have a cross section = to 5 square is to build from both sides and meet in the middle. It will not be as stable, but it will hold unless one of your anchor walls are destroyed.
Anything greater than 5 pieces across will require additional support.
