Bow crafting error. Can't it be addressed in a future patch?
Why are the Light Hyrkanian Bow and the Hyrkanian Bow both made from Thick Leather?

It's kinda lame how you're stuck with the basic bow until you either break an Archer Thrall on a Wheel(Get a Light Hyrkanian Bow, but can't fix it) or upgrade enough to kill Gorillas in the swamp or Elephants in the Savanna.... And then why craft the Light Hyrkanian Bow when you can make the Hyrkanian Bow for more damage with the same materials. It would just more make sense to have the Light Hyrkanian be crafted with Leather instead of Thick Leather.

You can get a lot of leather/heavy leather from chests in NPC camps, raiding them for supplies helps a lot with early game crafting!

The light bow does not require silk. That's the primary crafting difference between the light and regular Hyrkanian bows, aside from the differences in damage they put out.

Viorin, NPC camps are a viable option but Thick Hide and Thick Leather are extremely rare near the oasis from my experience.

Solomon, I acknowledge that silk is a material that the Light bow doesn't require; However, Silk is readily available closer to the starting location than any reliable source of Thick Hide, which is why I believe there exists an error.

In my current solo-game, I've stockpiled Silk several levels ago and just now collected Thick Leather from an Elephant. I've no incentive to even unlock the Light bow because I can go straight from basic bow to a Hyrkanian Bow. This is my point of the comment.

Rhino is the easiest source of thick hide to make thick leather. Bring a spear, a thrall, and watch out for tigers.

My guess is that it's an oversight on Funcom's part. A Light Hyrkanian bow would be roughly equivalent to an iron-tier weapon, and no other iron-tier weapon (except for, oddly enough, daggers) require leather to craft. Even in the case with the Iron Poniards, it requires 15 normal leather, not thick leather.

In Funcom's defense, recipes do not generally use user-friendly identifiers for components. The internal IDs for leather and thick leather are 12511 and 12512, respectively, so it's certainly possible that there was a mistype involved.

You could always bring up the issue on the Funcom Forums and see if one of the Community Managers responds either that it's intentional or it's a mistake.

Thank you Dread.

I must admit that the recipe for the light bow did have me wondering why wasn't regular leather normally used to craft it instead.

Shaleback minibosses drop thick hides, and they can be found along the noob river (check out the spot below Tarman’s berth). Unless that was changed too and they don’t spawn any longer or their hide is not thick now or whatever. Hard to keep track of all those wonderful updates.

These shaleback bosses (if they haven’t yet gone extinct) are really easy to defeat plus no tigers around.
