2- keep eye on white bar, but truncheon tier and mods important too. try to use highest tier with blunt weapon mod. if you mean stagger, they added some stagger immunity after few hits. but it resets, just after seconds or something.
3- try to bring a thrall with you, give him truncheon also.
4- try to bring a thrall with you, tank npc with shield as your thrall beats him. when he gets aggro you do same, keep beating.
also try to clear around before you knock him out. also use mixed combo, full heavy combo is a bit slower. you give opportunity to hit you.
Overall best truncheon in the game is a Steel Truncheon, crafted at a Torturer's bench with a Driver thrall on it, and the extra blunt damage mod. Second highest stun damage, but super cheap to repair.
Use a shield in the other hand to make it easier. And don't fight groups with your truncheon; even the best one. Pick your intended target out and kill everyone else before you attempt the fight.
If you want to use it yourself then make sure you use the best available, and give it the mod for added concussion damage. Kill all enemies except the one you want to capture, maneuver around until you got him backed into a corner, and then spam light attack until you're almost out of stamina. Back off, regen stam, and then repeat until he's down.
Your problem with hits not connecting is a result of a smaller hitbox than the animation suggests. You have to be very close, and don't waste strikes if the enemy is moving sideways relative to your position. Back them into a corner, or at least up against a wall.
If you are lvl 35 or over craft some blunted arrows and a crappy bow with a blunt fitting on it and shoot at your dream thrall from the safety of some elevated platform.
I mostly agree with this, but there is 1 exception. Take a low level, early Taskmaster if you can for your wheel of pain.
Assuming you don't mess with the default settings, a T4 named thrall will take more than 25 hours to complete on the wheel of pain. A tier 1 Taskmaster drops that down to about 17 hours, and a tier 2 Taskmaster drops it to about 12 hours.
So it's worth investing in a T1 or T2 Taskmaster.
also, having the first perk in strength helps A LOT.
use a thrall with the same setup if possible, a fighter is preferred.
Once you have a level 20 thrall they can do the whole job by themselves. Just keep and eye on their health, but I've never had one even get close to being killed.
Place a few foundations in the area with stairs up one end. it you are in trouble run up the stairs. when he comes up after you, jump off the end, he can't! So it's easy to stay away from him.
Start by getting the named thralls along the southern river, who are always fighting turtles.
Kill the turtles first, but be careful not to hit him.
I can't do it anymore I'm full up, and have 10 level 20s and a bunch more on the way up now. I never go anyplace without my thrall for protection I haven't died in many months.
He's 10 times as tough as my character is.
