Anyone else wish the animal models looked better?

I know it's kind of a petty gripe, but since pets became a thing, people spend more time seeing the game's animals close up. Some look perfectly fine, but several of them look truly wonky and awful to me (like wolves, the various cats, even the horses are kind of ugly). I realize this doesn't matter to everyone, and that some people may even disagree that there's anything wrong with the models, and I'm not trying to start any kind of argument. Just curious if anyone else out there finds it bothersome (I play singleplayer and have no Conan friends to discuss with lol) since I haven't seen it acknowledged before.

as someone who spends more time in Ark and just comes on once in a while to play the animals are terrible except the spiders. Honestly to me (I am wrong I am sure) the assets looked ripped right out of age of conan. Don't get me wrong Ark has some terrible looking animals from release also but most have had updates to their models and textures compared to conan which has basically left theirs alone. I am also in the minority though that thinks siptah looks absolutely terrible also though so I am picky.

Lol, no. There is (or was, I haven't looked in a while) ACTUAL animal assets from age of conan in the dev kit, likely they were stand-ins during early production. No where even remotely close to the same. Jagged polygons for days, as is appropriate for a game made so long ago (decade +). I know that gamers (I'm guilty as the next person for this) tend to have bad memories and think games looked better 10 + years ago then they actually do, but no, this is not a correct statement, at all.

The rocknoses and spiders had a recent revamp. According to the dev team a few months ago, this is something they want to do with other monsters in the future. Best thing to do is make a suggestion post on the forums (the more specific, the better).

yeah thats why i put in parenthesis i was probably wrong. Even when this game came out unreal engine had drop and play shaders and lighting so I cannot understand to date why the lighting in this game looks so bad when they could easily add just basic lighting to their levels yet they did some custom lightinig that feels and looks like something you would see in unity. Before I understood a lot of the tools in unreal I always assumed it was just the limit at the time of the editor but it wasn't. Its funny though because humans look great in this game but animals which would be easier to design and rig look so much worse. Id love to know why all that is and pick their brain.

Thanks, it's cathartic to hear someone agree. I, too, prefer ARK. Conan is my backup, lol. I agree that the human models are awesome and I've had that same puzzlement about the discrepancy between them and the animals. The cats don't even look like cats. Wolves' and hyenas' faces are hilarious. The fur textures are real bad. I'm not sure I find it worth making an account to complain about though. It's irritating but also just kind of a weird curiosity that I wanted to hear other players' thoughts on.
