Best place to farm for iron?
I have my current base camp just north of the Broken Bridge, and found a bit to the east towards The Sentinels. I have 27 iron bars and need 75 for the Wheel of Pain, as well as more for other needed resources like better weapons and armor. Are there any general nearby areas where I can farm for iron? I don't want to go too far, since there's hyenas and crocodiles everywhere.

My first base was at the sentinels and I had to go further north from the lake with the croc boss there is a lot of iron and rocknoses and hyenas on the way. I only had stone sword and would just run and dodge as much as possible around the rocknoses and had enabled no dropping of loot on death. So would just mine as much as I could before getting killed and would be safely at my base and repeat.

Oh awesome! That's an easy trek from where I'm at, I should be able to do that.
Is there a way to enable no loot drop when on normal difficulty, since that's not a default setting in that mode? I just started so I don't know the menu navigations very well, lol.

there is a MASSIVE iron spot just south of the tower of the bats, that goes up the mountain, have an base JUST to farm iron as the amount will fill you up.

Yeah that spot is even better than the one I mentioned. If you don't know where it is, you just follow the river bend to the left near skittering cavern mostly in the middle of 5F on the map and I've only done custom games and with that you can change server settings any time you want and probably can with the mode you chose as well. From menu in game you can change server settings after you select make me admin.

Without a doubt, Godsclaw Passage is one of the best, if not the best place to get tons of iron.

There are large amounts of iron deposits in the rocky cliffs around arena, sinkhole and summoning place. They are bit scattered, but I think that running the route with a bearer thrall in tow doesnt take that long. 2000 iron ore per trip, thereabouts. (T3 bearer thrall is awesome)

Don't forget that better tools give you more ore/materials.

Strongly supporting Wikkyd here --- as long there is no idiot building right inside the passage and blocking all spawns this place yields 10.000 (and a bit more) Iron in one go - and best is, it is all extremely close together. (Bring repair kits or several picks ;) )

Godsclaw is a hell of a long way to go though if you have just started playing, it's all the way in the Highlands not far from the snow area as OP did say they did not want to travel too far.

One place I like to go is the mountain with the Rockdonkeys. To get there go to the Sentinals. Then go North pass the lake with the giant alligator to where you'll see a huge tree. Go West across the desert until you see the giant Scorpion. There's a mountain on your left with an incline going up to a to a higher area. The best way to climb up the mountain is at the top of the incline. When you reach the top you'll see two Rockdonkeys in the dirt at a lower level.

To take care of them use a pike to stab into the ground. There's a bug where the Rockdonkeys will try to attack you and go into the ground under you. Once they are dead you can get a bit of iron, but there's even more. There's two more Rockdonkeys down the path with more iron.

If you still can carry more keep going West and there's even more deposits of iron with Rockdonkeys. You'll have so much iron, you won't know what to do with it all.

This map is fantastic for finding resources, thralls, etc. It's a tiny bit out of date but most of it is still relevant.

Using the map, IdleThreats provided F5 on the side of the big wasteland opposite the big tree is where I and a lot of people go to for starting Iron. There are rocknose around the ore but never more than 2 at a time. Just kind of stay close to a building until a sandstorm rolls through, then break out and do a run. If you can carry it, 2000 ore or 1000 bars is no trouble. I have done the run with 50 encumbrance, 1X and it's around 14,000 total in the area. There is more now, scattered nodes are all over the place now.

yes its f5. my pic link failed. im carrying 1500 now. from that node to home.

Build animal pen, get and tame an elephant (huge inventory) and go to Gods Claw. No Rock Horses there which are a pain early on mining iron at the Tower of Bats.

Or kill Black Hand Pirates at the Galleon. They're pretty tough though too. They pretty much all always drop 5ish iron bars.

In reality, don't build your base so far south. It's very limited resource wise, you'll find that out in just a few days.
