Is this game worth playing without the DLC's?
I had played maybe 150 hours before any DLC came out, loved the game, and recently some friends wanted to play it again. Just curious if I don't want to spend 40 bucks on the DLC's yet, is it worth playing or will I be severely underpowered compared to DLC players?

Also, has anything new been added to the base game that isn't DLC locked? Like tameable animals, story content, etc. Last I played was when they had released the jungle biome but the goddess had not yet been implemented.

As far as I know it's more or less the same thing as base game but with different skins, I heard they are harder to craft though

So nothing is OP? Because that was my biggest concern. I don't want to get back into it if it's all stuff that is going to make it impossible for me to play on a fair level, like having bases in biomes I can't access because I don't have the DLC or weapons and armor that is just stronger.

You won't have problems with gameplay. You can read about DLC in detail here https://conanexiles.gamepedia.com/Downloadable_Content

The downloadable content except for the expansions is just for appearances the armor is often lower in stats then the regular stuff you can make.

The stuff that counts is all there like level 4 fighter thralls, pet taming etc.

Perfect thanks.

All DLC armor use the same recipe as the unnamed sets and don't have exclusive Thrall requirements to make flawless versions like sets in game.

Heavy Pauldron for example used a Heavy chest padding, 30 Iron bars, 10 leather. Any T4 thrall can make it Flawless. That is true for any DLC heavy chest as well.

If you wanted a Flawless Hyrkanian Raider Brigandine (Heavy chest) you will need a heavy chest padding and 19 Elephant hide. In addition Orqina Steeltongue and one other (I think) thrall are the only ones who can make it in flawless version.

In short if you have DLCs you will have access to a lot more armor a lot faster. There are no 'trash' T4 armor thralls when you have DLC content.

In addition they have attribute benefits. Pictish Warchief is a heat insulated set with Strength. There is no heat insulated strength bonus heavy armor in the base game. Khitan Heavy is the only cold insulated heavy with Encumbrance bonus as well. So you have more options with DLC armors but I don't know if I call it an edge.. just options.

Weapons are all skin versions of Star Metal and look nice on a rack on the wall I suppose but legendary weapons and Kinscourge will be the endgame goals.

All building sets are Reinforced stone recipes and quality. T3 and more options, like armor but more on a cosmetic level.

Pet skins are purely cosmetic, though very cool. Sabretooth DLC skin Looks pretty bad ass. So does the Croc. Almost dragon in appearance.

Can you play without DLC? Most do and seem happy enough. I have all 4 and don't regret the decision but I don't feel like I have anyone over a barrel because of it. Granted, I made DLC sets for anyone I encountered on request.

Ok very thorough answer, I appreciate it. Affirms that I won't be getting smashed by people simply because I can't compete due to DLC. Thanks a million!

That said not having the DLC only means you can't craft the DLC stuff yourself, you can still obtain DLC items from other players without owning the DLC...

Technically its not ONLY cosmetics, but it isn't OP either. The epic versions of the DLC armor give different bonuses. Whether one type of bonus is better than another is up for interpretation and personal opinion.

Also, having the DLC means you basically save one skill unlock as unlocking exile epics will automatically also unlock the DLC epic, without having to spend extra skill points. This is not the case with the non-DLC armor, those you have to unlock individually. This is endgame stuff though.

But you cannot fix what you cannot craft?

I think you can still use repair kits to repair DLC items even if you don't have the DLC. The item just needs to not be completely broken.

I cant afford any of the DLC content, and whenever i see new DLC things i always look over them closely or even check the wiki. From all i have gathered DLC is purely cosmetic and grants no advantages over normal gameplay. I really like that they have it this way and hope that they continue to make future DLC content like this.
