Back after several months/patches -- BUGGY MESS!
Been back about a week, on a level ~40 i had on a pub server. All my bldgs/thralls etc. are gone of course so I'm just trying to rebuild. Previously, when I stopped, back in June or so, I was feeling decently established. Seems harder now. This is not entirely a bad thing, and I seem to recall, and feel, that XP was boosted for killing mobs and that is def a good thing.

I understand there was a thrall rework (probably several). OK, fine. I'm new at the game but yeah they seemed OP and I'm basically fine w/ the thrall rework in theory. But I think there were side effects of that which are ridiculous. And long-existing bugs which have not been fixed which are still ridiculous.

And some may be by design, but I think might need another look. And not that I think there is anything specific I'm misreading here but I am still kinda new, so if there are reasonable explanations for any of this, fine.

BTW this is vanilla, unmodded, un-DLCed, playing on official server, with about 40ms latency. my PC is of adequate spec to play the game. runs other unreal engine games well.

And fwiw I'm soloing, and starting to get the picture that some of this might be "balance" to induce ppl to team up more. Not quite sure how to feel about that.

Anyway, a bit of a list going...

(for what it's worth: 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8 are things that seem "new", and were not going on when I first got into the game. i definitely consider the game to have degraded and become less fun and usually less immersive (which is also of course less fun) in these aspects. :( )

1. thrall getting stuck on terrain (small slanted cliffs, for example. something i could definitely climb, if not jump, up, and a thrall could at least "hop" down, which was what was supposed to happen, but they got stuck). being in follow mode and refusing to follow, or obey other commands. even commands which typically get them unstuck, such as "attack". this is a brand new thrall so all the engagement range etc settings should be default.

2. enemies warping to you after you have broken off combat. i mean, seriously, broken it off. like: fled. half-a-map-grid away. then suddenly 2 rocknoses which were chasing me and I had "evaded", warp to my base and resume combat. same has happened w/ other animals. possibly cuz the thrall is keeping them engaged? even tho thrall is lagging behind when i try to run, and that's a separate problem all its own.

2a. or, for example, i climb a 10-15 ft. cliff to get away from some spiders, and a few seconds after i am at the top, spider warps up there and is right on my ass again. are there d&d-style warping spiders? idk. these were basic desert spiders, i'm pretty sure. did it have the pathing ability to climb up there? maybe. probably. i'm not sure. but why didn't it just climb instead of warping?

3. enemy AI prioritizing you, the player, in ridiculous circumstances. like, mainly, they are getting pounded on by something else, and they break off and come chase you, totally unprovoked. 4 crocodiles fighting 2 NPCs, about 20 feet away. they are all blocking a chokepoint so i just want to let them sort out their own business until i move in. suddenly one croc breaks off and heads for me and my thrall. the other 3 finish off the 2 npcs and all 3 want to chase me, none fight my thrall.

or, trying to recover corpse, running around w/ no wep, naked, enemies chasing me instead of trying to fend off my thrall who is killing them.

if this is part of the "rework", well, i'm still kiting them around and my thrall is doing the killing, so, idk maybe make it less silly. don't get me wrong: i would kill them all if i could but when they all attack you instead of just maybe mixing it up a little bit.. idk, maybe nearest, or most dangerous target...

4. in general lots of warping and (animals mostly, cuz that's what i'm fighting right now) getting stuck on terrain/stuck w/ pathing issues etc. combat music is playing and, a hyena is perched on a rock, aggro, wanting to attack me but it just won't move. then maybe 10-15 seconds later it warps down and wants to fight.

4a. and bizarre corpse states to go along with it. dead animals "standing" there in "t-pose". (like: i died to a tiger and came back and my thrall had killed it, but it was still in standing pose.)

"unconscious" animals. i got killed by a spider. someone else's thrall killed it while i was running back. when i tried to harvest the corpse it acted like an unconscious npc does when u kill them, including an attack hiss when i killed it.

5. using a weapon i took from a dead npc, (the dual daggers), whenever i die, the weapon will never be picked up through any kind of "take all", regardless of whether i am encumbered or not. i have to manually drag it w/ mouse, separately from picking up all the other stuff. not sure if shift-click works. definitely don't remember this behavior previously.

6. animal behaviors from a realism/balance standpoint. tiger should not be lounging there w/ 5 antelope hanging around and then suddenly it decides to get up and attack me. tiger should not be fighting an elephant and suddenly decide to come chase me.

7. corpses/mobs disappearing. kill something, the corpse disappears, u can't loot it. come back to the area 15 minutes later, the corpse is there. do a 360, it disappears again. etc.

8. other weird bugs: a) glowing goop texture is messed up. b) my character's voice somehow became that of an animal. verifying file integrity did not fix the problem. all files validated successfully.

Anyway.. the post sounds a bit "boo hoo" but when you're in the game these things don't seem reasonable and i'm just trying to relate that, so .. sry if something was lost in translation. :P

And I do like the challenge of this game overall but in addition to the things which are overtly buggy, it seems some things got a little skewed.

This could probably use some editing but i gtg for now and i just wanted to get these impressions down while fresh. TY.

Question for number 5. Is it a exceptional or flawless type weapon? If so, do you remember which NPC you got it off of?
I TOTALLY AGREE .. just came back after several months away .. Controls are not working .. Like they should and half the game is Just crap .. Sorry .. just the way I feel at the moment.

Can't get block to work .. I drowned with half a air bar still showing .. My storage boxes are not working like they should (can not get tabs to stay on, keep going just to 1 item _ they were working yesterday)

I think it may actually be a flawless but it's not a uniquely named weapon or anything like that. And I think it came from a regular ol' Kushite Fighter II. I think I had already made them my thrall when I took the wep, if that's significant at all.
+1 on the OP, I have similar experience and feelings. Played the game in 2018, came back 2 years later, and surprised on the bad quality of the game. Especially the network code, lag, moonwalking and teleporting NPCs - sometimes they just ruin immersion, but sometimes they acctually ruin the game, when the purge enemies teleport through the line of defense and appear in the middle of the base (and no, not because I built on the tiop of the mountain, some purge thralls do that on a flat, walkable base).


On the plus side, lots of content and features were added (I really like the tames and the improved follower handling) - but on the same time, these features usually good idea/poor execution combos.

I'll see if I can find it. So basically, exceptional and flawless weapons can't be crafted anymore (instead the Thralls themselves can boost the stats of the weapons). But if any drop from an NPC, that can result in the bug you were talking about.

So anyhoo, Imma try and find which NPC it is so I can report it as still dropping as they should all be out of the loot tables now.

Edit:

So there are a LOT of NPC's labeled as Kushite. Do you remember which faction it was? Dogs of the Desert, Black Hand, Exiles, etc?

just Stop playing the Game all along :)
Just a recommendation, The Game is good but People ruin it, by overbuilding or overclaiming land, This is not how Conan is supposed to be, Fallout 76 did something about it, Building Budget, every Structure Bound to the builder so the only Option to Build Together would be inside the Same Clan also enabling Base Destruction even if you are in Passive Mode so you can Tear Down Structures even in PVE Servers!
