2 versions: retail and most stable/played from its historical version list.
Rn i cant play the game, everything is a mess, and the constent mechanics changes (for the worse in top of that) is really destroying the game for me.
I think its not hard to understand the idea.
I did this to test a bunch of builds for stutter issues, finding them going all the way back to Early Access.
Would be cool to have a "classic" version thats moreso "stable" and players being able to stick with it. Game is becoming a pure mess rn, if bugs even lets you play that is.
I read. I'm not going to maintain 2 + versions mods, and update 2 versions + mods with new content because people insist on using outdated versions of Conan Exiles. This community demands enough of it's mod authors as it is.
You claim in two posts how this would help mod authors, but what you are actually demanding is that we double our workload (at minimum). No. Just, no.
The problem is having to change and check the code every update or code changes... which is basically what messy updates are about
I've been modding Conan for nearly 3 years, I don't need to be told how it works or any of it's challenges.
This is the last time I'm going to cover this thread. I have several mods, and your demands would mean that I would have to keep them all updated for a MINIMUM of 2 versions. Oh you could claim that people can "vote" on a version that is "stable," but let's be honest. Everybody is going to have their opinion on what their favorite build is, and thus, demand (and I do mean demand) that all mod authors maintain dozens of different mods.
Anytime I wanted to add something new, a new feature, I would need to update ALL versions. Then there is the fact that I would have to make the new feature work on both old and newer versions. You could say "no you don't", but you haven't been modding for Conan Exiles.
What you are proposing will make mod authors lives far, far, far more difficult. If Funcom were to make multiple versions available, I would be crystal clear that I will only provide updates to the latest versions. And if or when people demanded I provide other versions, I would quit modding. And I know a whole lot of other veteran mod authors who have been around a very long time who would do the same.
Hold your horses, I don't have a knife on your throat, and nobody here is asking you to update ♥♥♥♥ for anyone. Relax now. This isnt even a demand, it's an idea.
it would be far more dificult if you decided to update your mod on classic and retail version alike. Yes. But you can also choose to mod only 1 version.
Other game's modding community have been able to mod into older stable version when ♥♥♥♥ went wrong and didnt gave a ♥♥♥♥ about new. 1 version is 1 version, like WoW classic and retail to give a dumb example.
feels more like projecting more fear about dividing the mod community and playerbase alike Id say, easy to smell, and this I can understand.
The game rn is not fun nor sufficiently functionable.
Ok, I tried this. Steam could make it a whole lot simpler. I don't think I was doing it right even with those directions.
