Best server settings for single player?
I just started getting into this game but I'm playing solo and know that this game was designed around multiplayer. Can anyone suggest what settings I should change to make the game better suited for single player or show me a thread where it has already been discussed because I had trouble finding one. I don't want the game to not be challenging or punishing, but I don't want to lose anything in game because I have no chance of winning simply for being solo.

I would suggest playing on default settings to start and as you play and learn the game if something is not to your liking then change the setting for that item.

What is best for someone may not be best for you, it is all personal preference.

I play 100% on default settings solo and have no problems playing the game or killing things.

So far that is what I've been doing, just messing around with some of the settings so it feels balanced but because I just started I'm not sure what every setting does. I still don't know what the purge does and I don't want to lose my whole entire house with all my stuff if it is because of something I'm supposed to rely on other players' assistance

Here are some helpful adjustments to make:

* You'll want to lower the Thrall Crafting Time and Animal Crafting Time multipliers considerably. The reason for this is that, unlike on a sever which is constantly running, your progress on cooking a thrall stops when you log off. It's not bad for a one-hour cook time, but named thralls can take 24 hours. I set mine to 0.25x for each, low enough to make me not hate myself and high enough so that taskmaster thralls are still useful. (NOTE: If you set these to 0.00x, thralls will complete instantly.)

* For the same reasons above, I would recommend lowering the general crafting time multiplier somewhat. I put mine on 0.5x to alleviate some of the pain of crafting 1000 iron reinforcements while still giving your average crafting thrall some utility.

* I would recommend lowering idle hunger and thirst multipliers considerably. There may come a time when you have to step out, for one reason or another, and forget to exit out of the game. The default settings ensure that you will shrivel up and die from dehydration and starvation should this last longer than an average bathroom break. I set mine to 0.2x for each, but you could go down to 0.1x to be safe.

Thanks for the recommendation and also the explanation of what each setting does. I'm getting an understand for how these things work now

With regards to the Purge, an important single-player adjustment to make is lowering the 'Purge Meter Trigger Value' (if you want the Purge to occur more often). The default value is something like 42,000 points, built up through specific actions like building structures and crafting items. The default value is high enough so that it is unlikely that you'd have one before reaching level 60. I set mine to 10,000, which is low enough for a Purge to trigger every 3-4 hours or so, more frequently at higher levels.

Aside from that, the only relevant settings would be the 'Purge Difficulty,' 'Prepartion Time,' and 'Purge Duration.'

Difficulty is more dependent on where you decide to build your base than anything else. Building along the main river will almost invariably grant you easier Purge fights, even at setting 6. The inverse is true in a place like the Highlands, which almost requires a higher difficulty setting to start a Purge. Overall, a 3 or 4 difficulty setting would be the most practical, and you can always fine-tune it to your situation later.

Preparation Time is not actually as important as you may initially think. When the trigger threshold is met, the Purge does not actually begin the prep countdown until you are within the coordinate square your base resides in. (This is true of my experience, I've read differing accounts in the Discussion Forums, though.) The default 10 minutes is generally fine unless you don't want to waste time.

As for the Purge Duration, that's really up to your preference. The 30 minute default time can drag on if you don't want the specific faction that's currently attacking, but a higher time will give you a greater window to capture high-value thralls. In a single-player scenario, exiting the game during the prep countdown or in the middle of the Purge will end it, so keep in mind that it will stop if you need it to.
