can't get the map room to fit in my castle
hey guys,

i am trying to fit the map room in the third story of my castle. the room is big enough that i can place the map room and is 3 tiles high. but i can't get a ceiling over the damn thing. it won't let me place anything in the 3 center squares.. i guess because structural integrity?

i just watched a video of someone building just such a map room, 3 tiles high as well, and in the video the guy could place the ceiling tiles without a hitch.

i don't get it. am i doing something wrong? any advice appreciated :)

use your repair hammer to check the stability.
anything that have <=20 stability won't hold another tile.

use pillar to support more ceiling.

how would one use a piller with the map room? if i use a pillar in the center, the map room has to go :P

since the guy in the video didn't need pillars for the same size ceiling, i am sure i am doing something wrong, or i just don't get it :)

Might make 4 as corners to the maproom.
Just make sure they have enough support from below.

the map room is roughly the size of the black ceiling tiles. where would i put pillars? :)

the room in this guys video is even larger and there is no need for support.

i don't get it, was something changed since the video was uploaded?

Just do the math yourself.
The foundation+pillar connected to the ground has 100 stability.
Each segment added has 20 less which means you can add 4 segments total to it in one horizontal direction.
Thats why you have to make sure "every single outer foundation/wall/pillar has a connection to the ground straight beneath it.
Placing a pillar on a foundation/ceiling that has only 80 stability wont give you 100, but only 80 too.

You should realy check every single segment with a hammer equiped and drawn if there maybe is 1 with only 80 or even 60 stability instead of 100

i built that thing now a few times. with walls and the ceiling, with foundations instead of walls and the ceiling, never worked. i was always missing 20 stability to begin with as it seems.

built it now for the 23. time, this time it worked. not sure, where i was missing the stability previously... strange.

guess that means the biggest room one can create without pillars is 8 x X? i am still wondering what the guy in die video did, his room is larger.

apperantly there is no need for a repair hammer, just press tab to see the tile details.

Map room fits inside 8X8 square but it's round, so in your 9X9 floor you should be able to place pillars on foundations A2, A8, I2 and I8 and still fit the map in the center. If your room is built on foundations then those pillars should give enough stability so that you can close the ceiling.
You may have to place the map first and pillars after that.
