Lag, lag, lag and more lag
Official servers are lagging like hell recently, just unplayable at some hours during the day. Great game, horrible servers.

Server
  1. The server you are playing on (population, amount of placed objects, etc...).
  2. The server's connection to the internet (shared IP, shared connection, shared underpowered server, etc...).
  3. Traffic on the internet (could be anything).
  4. The path that the connection takes from you to the server and back (the fewer hops the better).
  5. Your ISP, this is the most common cause of lag. Evidence of this is teleporting.
  6. A problem at your router. This is the hardest to diagnose and requires specialized software.
  7. An issue with your rig. 99% of the time this is not an issue with a server-based game.

I know that many of you are going to point to the net code used by Funcom. To be honest, the net code really cannot prevent or mitigate anything that I listed above for the server-based game lag issues.

Single Player
  1. The total number of placeable objects in your game, this includes thralls.
  2. An issue with your rig (typically will see this with older hardware).
  3. Not enough memory, keep in mind that Windows typically needs 8gb of ram to operate properly. The SP game also needs 8gb of memory to properly run. Do not forget to take into account the programs that are also running in the background (Nvidia Gforce or a similar app, security software, printer management app, etc).

Co-op Game
This option for gameplay is a hybrid version of the previous two options. Anything from the previous lists comes into play here. The host machine is acting as the server for both players. Both of the lists apply to the host player. The other player will only see issues that are caused by the items listed for the server-based game.

My Experiances
I generally do not play the server-based game due to known identified issues with my ISP. They have a network issue in the area I live in that they have not been able to resolve. Secondly, I found with the aid of the technical support team for another game that I play that there is an issue with the ISP provided equipment in my home.

Can I switch my ISP? The quick answer is yes. It does have a major drawback since it is a DSL service and my current provider is cable. Yes, the Telco does have a multiplexer in the area. Sadly, I live about two miles from it. So the end result will be a serious downgrade in the speed that I am subscribed to.

As for the SP game, my main base is game-breaking. Funcom actually has used my base to stress test features that are in the game. To give you an idea on size, it almost covers two whole map squares and I can admin teleport around the base.

Yes, my rig is a beast so I do know it can handle anything I throw at it.

I was on a private server, and even with pings as low as 60-80 there were noticeable lag concerns/de-sync/rubber banding. It's not just the servers; it's the code.

Im seriously considering to ask for a refound. What piss me off the most is that the game is very good but you simply can't play because of the servers, and as far as I've searched the game devs don't care at all about it. Just sad.

Then you didn't search very hard.

These threads do absolutely nothing. If you want actual help, post on the official forums with detailed information. Meaning, more information then "server is laggy." What server, what do you mean by lag, etc.

But be very aware, most of Funcom's staff is on holiday break.

The information is: ALL south america official servers are lagging during ALL the day, ping 1020+. You play half hour, lag 10 min, then play a hour, lag 15 min, etc etc etc.

I posted at g portal us official foruns about it, but I saw there topics from april complaining about the same thing which make me thinks they know about it but dont fix.

they wont fixed, I was threatened with a ban for posting about lag. I have been complaining for a long time as well and the steam community admin or mod threatened me with a ban,

I'll give it a try in non official servers. But I think that is a joke that official servers are this ♥♥♥♥, its just the basic of basic having good servers. Im almost sure I'll ask for a refound seeing how things is going.

I have had the same issue on a single player game so it's the code for sure the programming in this game is stupid to say the least. a year ago I played with no issues and zero lag at high settings so it's something on their end at it's really frustrating.

on official every time a bug/freeze happens it's probably because a big base is vanishing (decay)

Server Lag
Lately it feels like a debugging program is being run in the background . Funcom needs to fix the servers and get rid of the lag , some servers are getting real bad .

The server I'm on has become a lot worse with the last two patches, before that it was actually quite good. There were still glitches, of course, and there was often some lag, but it was easily tolerable and rarely caused any major issues.

Lately, though, that's not the case. I swing at enemies in melee range when they first engage in melee and they warp past me. Some approach but then suddenly appear behind or beside me. Sometimes when I shoot at an enemy the arrow doesn't go anywhere on the first shot, no damage shows up and there's no arrow trail. It's just gone. I shoot again and the enemy warps away from where I fired so the shot misses, or the shot hits but ricochets off and does no damage. The third shot usually hits because by this time the game figured out where the enemy is supposed to be, where I am, and where my shot is going. Sometimes one or both of these glitches happen, sometimes it works fine. It's been pretty random but I get tired of basically throwing away high end arrows...

I'm sure there are dozens of factors, as pointed out above, but when it works fairly well one day, then turns into a lag and glitch filled nightmare right after a patch comes comes out then we really can't look at anything other than something in that patch being the root of, or contributing to, the issues.

I don't run any mods so it isn't that. My ISP is fine, never really had any issues with any games. Tested latency with dozens of other games and I know the latency is fine. Packet loss is fine, as in there's little to zero. The traceroute is fine (not too many hops or huge delays anywhere). And, finally, post patch the server population was roughly the same (pretty low), placed items and thralls were very likely a bit higher but we're talking issues popping up shortly after a patch, like a few hours, so people did not have time to build or add too much to the server. There's clearly been some change in the patch or patches that has done something.
Still lags after 2 yrs playing this game
Hi.
First thing to say .. Iam a big fan of Conan Exiles but .. the main issue in my opinion are those lag spikes and freezes in this game.
I read and read and searched for fixes but nothing works. There are lags in singleplayer and multiplayer.

My System:

Intel i7 6700K
GTX 1070
16GB RAM
WQHD Screen

Is it me or is it the engine of the game?

i never lagged in this game and i have same setup as you but on laptop could be just you.
Solomon Hawk Mar 10, 2020 @ 9:18am
I understand it can be especially nasty on servers where several players are active at the same time. That's an SQLite DBMS problem you can do nothing about. It started the day they built this game with it. It's the fastest DBMS out there, but it's setback is how many clients it can handle simultaneously. Which if I'm correct is only 1 at a time.
I experience it at times when my friend and I are on at the same time.
If you are on with several others, I imagine it must be a nightmare.

Take heart though, it's not your system.

Do you have an SSD? Using one helped me quite a bit. With an HDD even the intro screens would lag and partially freeze up for me.

My game "seems" to crash less too - so far...

Do you use any mods? verify files and see if that fixes it.
