Iron skinning 1-2 hide from shale

use them on deer. The difference between using a hatchet and a skinning knife is pretty huge. On the shalebacks, it's pretty minimal as you've noted.

Oh yea, it's a big difference. I'm not sure why shalebacks drop so few resources

Are you farming for hide by chance? If so, use the skinning knife on crocodiles and then put the reptile hide in the armorers bench. You should be able to covert it to 1 (reptile) > 2 (hide). Where I'm at, this is much faster than skinning deer.

If you're trying to get meat, then the cleaver will also get you more meat from deer than shales.

I've notifced reptile hide and hyena skin are quite good for hide.

i think i tried to get komodo dragon meat a month ago with iron cleaver it didn't yield so good if i remember correctly
