How to change or upgrade walls without collapsing everything above?
I tried to google this, but the indo is really outdated (from early 2017) or seems false. There was a post from a community manager or something like that and it said I could just make a new wall and place it where the old wall is to change/upgrade. So I tried to add another doorframe in place of a solid wall and I couldn't even get the doorframe to overlap the old wall so had to demolish and build 3 walls because everything above collapsed too. Then I made a better wall to see if it only worked with upgrading from one material to another. Nope, same thing again. Couldn't overlap the walls and had to destroy and build again.

So how do I do this without having to replace huge chunks at a time and worrying that I'll end up destroying something that took me over 40 hours to build?

Strange. I have never had any trouble updating walls with different types, although I never tried to update a standard wall with a wall with a door opening.

So it should work by just placing a new wall where the old one is?

Yes, you have to place the new wall (if higher tier) in the old one and it will 'upgrade' although you have built a separate wall in your inventory.

Thanky you :) I wonder if this is just another symptom of the vertical aim bug, I've been getting that a lot lately. I'll try again after dinner and see if resetting my char by removing the bracelet will fix this.

Ok, so you cant upgrade a wall into something else. Wall-> higher tier wall. But not Wall-> Doorframe.

To upgrade, simply craft the wall you want and place it over the old wall.

i think you have to go up in stages. ie t1 to t2, t2 to t3 etc not t1 to t3 and so forth.. i9 could be wrong though as i dont worry about upgrading bases i just move them to other locations..

I'm trying to replace sandstone foundations with stone-brick. I get "Failed to place." Do they have to be in the exact same orientation, meaning do I have to rotate the new foundations?
