Planters?
I'm failing to see the value of planters. The only seed you can get any significant quantity of are the basic seeds that only grow plant fiber. Plant fiber is stupidly easy to get, especially once you have a sickle, the seeds are a fair bit less common and are far more useful in other recipes. Every other seed type seems exceptionally rare, like I have gathered 60 lupine and only found 2 seeds, and wasting my time turning those 2 seeds into a few more lupine just doesn't seem useful. It feels like the planter recipes should be returning at least one seed 100% of the time, instead of never returning seeds? Am I missing something?

So instead, they are just a waste of time. Its better to just hit a plant agian and drop the seeds you get then use the seeds to grow plants

Desert berries are good value in the planter. 1 seed 50 berries. I got 55 seeds vs the 300 berries I got with my sickle and that's a good value imo. Wine, salted berries into plates of hot healing food. It's all I use them for right now really =P.

I use them as a suppliment. Dump the extra bones and stuff I don't need into the grinder, slap all the extra meat I don't need into the composter, put aloe seeds in the planters. more healing potions.

Ya I saw the return on the berries, but I couldn't think of any use for said berries. I didn't know wine was a thing, I will have to look into it.

under the survival tab on the feats lists. Brewing is right after the apiary for honey.

Some of the best stuff is hidden like that in the various tabs and easy to miss or overlook (especially on multiplayer servers where people have to specialize since they can't unlock it all)

Planters are damned useful in areas where you can't find the resources more easily.
Here's an example:
If you've unlocked brewing in the south, you need leavening agent and hops which are found only in the north.
Gather seeds and take them back to the planters (in the south) and plant them with compost.
Soon enough you'll be swimming in hops and leavening agent.
Guess what? Leavening agent is also a key component of making bread in the furnace.
Then Honey Bread is healthy, gives a lot of points back and is light to carry.
Also, they're useful for growing other itmes such as aloe which you use to make healing potion. It's easier than having to go wandering around looking for more plants.

I use it mainly for aloe.

Aloe is an example of what I'm talking about though. Gather 100 aloe, get maybe 4 seeds, which after some effort grow into 20 more aloe, a 20% boost. The effort required to grow the seeds is higher than the effort required to just manually gather more of the resource. You might as well grow the seeds anyway, just to use them, but it doesn't feel like a useful or interesting addition to the game.

Except its not any effort, in the course of your trvels you'll get everything you need to make what you need to grow it without going out of your way or investing time into farming mats. You may not get many seeds at a time, but you'll have all the crap easy to make mulch and grow the seeds you do get, unless you need bone THAT badly that you can spare it for making mulch.

The only real effort here is getting aloe seeds to start with.

The effort is running around putting the resources in various crafters and then distributing the fertilizer and seeds into the planters. It's not a lot of effort, but it's also not a lot of resources in return. Clicking once on an aloe plant with a sickle gets you more of a return. Click once, or shuffle half a dozen different resources between half a dozen different inventories.

Except its NOT that complicated. It just isn't.

Seeds can be stored indefinately. They never go bad. They can also be stored in greater Quantities than the regular materials. There are some advantages. Think of it like those 2% cashback credit cards. You will likely use a credit card for some things. Might as well collect the 2% and let it accumulate. You don't have to pay taxes on it until you cash it out.
