Heavy armor is bad
Heavy armor doesn't provide decent damage reduction against strong enemies and it give too way cons.
I'm playing with friend, he is using light armor and leveling HP, while i'm using heaby armor and level weight.
His HP is around 360, mine is 280.
His armor is 40. Mine is 430.
We receive +- the same damage (With my armor being x10 of his), and more:
1. There is no poise, i'm still ragdolled by every enemy
2. Dodgeroll in heavy armor replaced with almost useless sidestep for like half of distance of dodgeroll
3. Stamina consumption for climbing is like x10 for heavy armor (and it's not weight tied, it's tied to armor class you are wearing)
4. Even with leveling weight i'm at around 50-60% with armor and weapons only, so my stamina consumption for sprint is higher

I would go into singleplayer, switch into admin mode and max your level out.

Experiment with all the Feats (you get some bonuses to armor from them), the Armorsmith crafting skill like putting a weight reduction add-on to armors/weapons and the War Paints.

Thankfully, you cannot have them all. No Rambo/Universal Soldier mode. You will need to make some trade-offs.

Even with a lot of bonuses to the heavy sets, I'm sure heavy armor was meant for a purpose and not general utility like medium or light is.

What mode you're playing, ie PVE or PVP, also matters when it comes to Feats, weapon/armor add-ons, crafting etc. The game is not balanced out of the box for solo or even co-op, so you'll need to make a fair amount of tweaks to the server settings and or mods to enjoy it that way.

I'm playing PVE and I wrote about cons of heavy armor. The thing is there is no pros. At all. Defence either doesn't work ot all, or provide insignificant bonus. Again, i've got x10 more armor rating than my friend, yet we receive similar damage.

How would you wear heavy armor without leveling weight?
Valkirius May 11, 2018 @ 10:20am
Have you read the agility perks?

I'm not sure where you're going wrong but I've definately seeing a damage reduction using heavy armour verus using medium armour, which is what I was wearing before. Also I do try to dodge as much as possilble, get behind the enemy etc. I also have the passive healing ability.

Dodge with sidestep or you spent in agility, because some enemies like elephants got phantom range with their attacks and no way you can dodge them with sidestep. Also, i've fought ghosts and human NPCs at the west if highlands and they surely can hit me for 30-40% of my hp, when i'm wearing Hyrkanian Raider set.

Of course. There is nothing about weight, therefore still no pros for heavy armor over medium.

Lol, You need agility and some vitality.

Agility directly increases your armor stat, You can choose the encumberence perk that allows you to deal more damage while encumbered as well.

If you're trying to wear heavy armor and keep up with your ninja build buddy, you're gonna have a bad time. Heavy armor is absolutely viable if you read up on stats and what they do.

Honestly, You won't survive with heavy armor by face tanking attacks, Use the sidestep to the left or right of opponents when they attack and it'll help quite a bit.

Sad to say, but heavy armor isn't bad. You are.

There's a bug where some (all?) enemies with sunder will (sometimes?) permanently sunder your armor, meaning it's easy to be in a situation where heavy armor is providing the same or less armor than light. I don't know how to fix it, relogging or dying or using some other buff maybe, I haven't seen anyone mention a fix. That might be why you think your heavy armor sucks though.

Astasia does bring up a good point, I had forgotten about that.

Removing the bracelet resets the armor value for me, Although I don't know if it's just a visual bug or if it's actually decreasing the stat.

Heavy armor is op.

Go into sp and spawn the silent legion set, level agi to 40 and put weight reduction kits on the armor. 40agi perk changes your armor class 1 tier lighter so you can roll in it

Go and let something hit you, you take extremely small amounts of damage

Last I played, which was just a few weeks prior to release, I was wearing the Vanir heavy armor and killing elephants with a two-handed sword. In the case of elephants, they're tall. You dodge under them, and then out to the side. Plus with a weapon like a two-handed sword, it has poise built into most of the heavy swings.

I can't speak for anything below Vanir armor, but I found the difference in damage I take to be pretty dramatic compared to anything medium. I went from nearly dying being trampled by a elephant to practically ignoring it entirely.

I don't know about ghosts, but the old school table topper in me would avoid ghosts for the time being with the expectation that my armor is going to do nothing. The NPC exiles, when I faced them, I just tried to end the fight faster or play it evasive if I got sundered.

If you go heavy armor, go agility. Trust me, it's the best move.

You aren't taking more damage than your friend, or the same damage, he's doing vitality and has WAY more HP than you doofus.

Too bad you can't read, that's really useful skill, try to learn it.
His hp is 360, mine is 280, it's less than 20% difference. I've got 440 armor, and he got 40 armor. That's 1000% difference. Perhaps person above is right and something is bugged, but last time i've checked we received the same damage.

Respeced for 20 points in weight and 30 points in agility.
Me: 491 armor, 210 HP, Hyenna hit me for 5 HP, which is 2.5% of my total HP
Friend: 68 armor, 462 HP. Hyenna hit him for 10 HP, which is 2.2% of his total HP.
I'm still affected by nonexistant roll, high stamina consumption for climb and high equipment load. Later i will test on someone stronger.
