Yes, but the dagger will give you less resin. A hardened steel dagger gives me less resin than a lvl 45 pickaxe (lower lvl tool). The only real advantage is the one you mentioned, you dont find wood if you use a dagger, so you wont be encumbered.

Or just use the pickaxe and drop all the wood whenever you get to the encumbered state

Is this a new feature? Last I tried with a steel dagger I got nothing from trees i the north. It was almost two weeks ago tho.

you will be extremely disappointed by resin harvest if you use a dagger. While all you get is resin, it is not 100% drop with each hit, and you get less resin than if you use a pick. Use a pick to get the most resin when harvesting.

When you are able to craft a drying rack, use the bark for fuel in the drying rack, add wood, and you will get both resin and dried wood for a longer-burning fuel than coal in all your furnaces, cooking pits, etc. This way you get 2 dried wood and 1 resin for each piece of wood used. It uses a lot of bark but if you harvest enough wood with a pick, you won't have issues running out of bark.

You can also get resin by putting wood in the drying rack; good for afk.

Well best way to get resin in my eyes is with a pick and this is why you get resin bark and wood the wood and bark you take them to a dryer rack and it turn to more resin and dry wood(a great fuel) and the dryer rack only use bark so you end up harvesting resin and making it in base as well

Wood in dryers, just have to collect bark, which you get wood while you're doing so

wood in dryers! (I forget if is normal game play or mod I have installed, but I get bark from making shaped wood, and then use that to fuel the drying rack, but I have been working on getting Ice shards for my Ymir alter, so... multitasking on the recourse gathering)
