How do you make Hardened Steel?
As above. I have the recipe for the tools, I just can't figure out how to make the materials.

You need black ice to make that steel, for that you need to build an altar of ymir and upgrade it to the last altar , there you can turn 100 ice into 1 black ice.then you take the black ice steelbars and coil into the smelter and tatata...hardened steel :)

Oh for the love of god seriously? What were Funcom smoking when they made this update?

i dont know (but must be good) and i dont know , for what reason they took the altar as an craftingstation, Ice,Black ice and a Armorset from ymir you can make on it. and its expensive to build the altar.

You can get black ice in other ways, but it requires alot of farming
Gardein Aug 23, 2017 @ 11:43pm
farming what?

The best part is that the Ymir trainer is broken so you have to spend 50 points just to unlock the altar.

Killing the Giant Ice Rocknoses and harvesting them with a pick.

Killing the giant rocknoses in snow biome and harvest with pick gives some black ice.

Unfortunately i didnt choose ymir as my religion so i guess im in big trouble if i want large quantities of this. Also, Ymir religion teacher is bugged, doesnt work.

If you can find a good place with the giant rocknoses (called living mountains formally) it's a much bettter source than crafting it from the t3 ymir alter. also, the crystal ice formations CAN give black ice, but it's a very low drop rate, maybe 1% at best, so the monsters are the best bet(they are weaker than they look, for the most part)

Yeah I've started farming them since they first got mentioned, and they're an absolute joke to kill.

Hi

The Rocknoses provide a reasonable amount of black ice, but they take forever to kill.
They don't seem to do a lot of damage if you keep moving around them and stay away from the front, but it's a drag to do several of them in a row.

The skeletons in the same area are deadly though.
I attacked one of them and got killed almost instantly.

So far I've only done it to get black ice to create and repair my upgraded fur armor.

I haven't made anything that requires hardened steel, and it sounds like a pain to make, it so unless I find that I really can't survive without it, I'll stick with what I've got.

Next time I'll see if the Ancient Bow does a lot of damage to the Rocknoses maybe that will speed up killing them.

Mike

Black ice nodes issue is fixed now, they give you black ice instead of white ice. Just mine them, it's as easy as mining iron stones. Plenty of black ice nodes in the far north. Killing giant rocknoses is pointless now.

Oh that's good to know, I thought I read that they made the nodes even worse than they were before. Guess I was mistaken.

I just made 3 trips into the Ice temple and came out with over 1000 black ice per trip. The biggest pain is theres sooo much black ice in there and sooo little time. You can run past most of the ice giants, and the ones you cant are easy to kill, since they swing over your head. Just dodge when they try to stomp you, and stay very close to them and you wont take any damage. The last giant guarding the forge is the hardest, took me about 5 minutes to kill.
And bring wood shavings if you want to make the black ice weapons and pick.
