Can't Emote in Current State

What does this mean, and how do I get out of it. I can't use any emotes...

You may be in walk mode, or sitting. This prevents other emotes from being used.
If you're standing, draw your weapon (which puts you automatically in a run mode) and put it away. Try the emote again.
