Destroy the Abyssal Remnant
How can this be completed? We killed a few NPCs on altar of The Dregs, but nothing happens.

Should only take 1 kill ally or otherwise but make sure the body is on top of it

As dragonraider1000 says, position is important. You can also kill one of your clan on the altar to open it.

Yes, we tried it in center 2 kills, but they fall through it and die from bleed. Then we killed more and it worked.
