You can use any food as long as it's not raw.

^^^

Make fish traps, loot them after a bit and cook. Use the high grade fish to feed the wheels of pain

Pretty sure thralls will not eat human flesh, that includes ones on the wheel..unless that has changed since the patch. They eat just about everything else though.

The greater wheel of pain would not use honey as a fuel source when I tried that in it about a month ago.
About 8 months ago I found that lesser wheel of pain and wheel of pain would not use dried meat (and maybe also dried fish) as a fuel source... this might have been patched to work since then ... vague recollection of a patch note about it ... but didn’t bother retesting as gruel was so much easier to craft in bulk.

Interesting, we have used dried fish and meat on the wheel in the past and it worked. It just burned through it really fast. Maybe something was changed, I'll have to give it a try again. Also, I didn't know that about honey, although I never tried it on the wheel.

I noticed this too. I added a bunch of cooked fish & meat and the timer remained the same. Maybe it only shows the time left on the gruel being burned first?

Bingo. Each timer reflects the source being burned through at the moment. This is true for any crafting station that uses fuel to work.
