And if you are not aware - feeding thralls/pets different foods while leveling gives them different attributes, e.g., grilled steak to thralls boosts vitality. Wish this were a static spreadsheet but there is a lot of information about the food effects here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iePQ07R_Ng&start=29s
With epic heavy armor and the occasional healing arrow nothing in the city is a threat to your thrall.
I wasn't aware that thralls could be reset. Is that an actual mechanic, or is there a glitch involved?
Fauna -- scorpions, primates, the flamingo thingies, crocs etc. -- and remote, sparsely populated camps, are all relatively safe fodder for levelling buddies.
Schmotips:
- If you have a the "up to six followers" mod installed, level them one at a time, rather than as a gang. It's much easier to manage them individually; even if they're not "helping" one another as such.
- Use healing arrows to, either, fighting inside the healing clouds of, or to stand back an act as healer for your companions as they fight / level up.
- RUN whenever your minions' HP is lower than 50% -- just to be safe.
- Fight atop a steed, and preferably one that has a perk or two unlocked (level 5/10) -- it acts as an effective damage buff, as well as an decent arrow target; plus, it can get you out of trouble faster, in an emergency. Just ensure you're not in a prop-crowded area, or you might get glitched in between objects, get ganged up on, and end up dead in seconds... /speaking from experience v_v
So, aside from installed the "more followers mod" (*highly recommended -- it also allows for instant summoning of followers, as well as teleporting them back home), you'll just have to do the levelling on foot... like a Wastelands peasant. 😏
I've been testing the leveling on my undead hyena, Howler. Mostly because the undead hyenas are relatively cheap, and not *completely* hopeless like the normal skeletons. I'm still working on getting a handful of named fighter and archer thralls, they take ages to tame. If I find something that works well on a relatively squishy follower like Howler, I was going to level up Silent One (the skeleton legion warrior) and then take it to help collect some of the rare materials to actually start making the Epic upgraded armor for human followers.
So knowing of a method of healing undead followers reliably would be useful. The bandits and tomb robbers have been very helpful for keeping Howler stocked with the... er, correct kind of food and it's up to 3750HP at level 16. Not outstanding, but it seems to do okay as long as I stay away from bosses. Silent one has more HP than that at level eight, so I'm pretty sure anything Howler can survive Silent One can just steamroll.
The dead Hyenas around the Arena and the skeleton archers give good points for your thralls.
I go there and kill all of them by shooting them from a distance with my bow once, then I move out of the way and let my thrall do all the work.
I can do this using light armor and just keep moving in a circle while my thrall finished them off.
Once they are dead I head north to the river below and then west following the river to the fork and then south killing all the crocks and lizards. Ignore the humans they aren't worth the bother.
By the time I get back to my house near the pool on the river near then big statues they have gained another level. Maybe several if the are low level to start with.
I have killed the big crock and a number of dragons (for the dragon bones) using only an ax with the help of one of my level 20 thralls.
They are really tough. I used to use dozens of arrows to do this.
I equip my thralls with legendary weapons because the never wear out with them using them.
I've only had one thrall get killed and he was only level 10. I've found that they gain different skills and some finished level 20 thralls are like super man.

They do eat "rotten" foods and human flesh for sustinence (as listed in their respective "menus"), which interplays well for Set acolytes (*hearts are used at the altar for crafting).
However, the healing cloud works universally, from my experience with the game. Perhaps they will update it, or a mod made available, where, say, poison arrows heal undeads... Which would make for an interesting mechanic: undeads needing to be healed from afar, yet, having the beneficial offshoot of allowing players to spam poison arrows into melees for damage-dealing and healing...
Healing arrows -- that's it. If you find another way, I'm all ears / eyes... 'Cause it does get a bit repetitive to have to keep equip bows and healing arrows mid melee, so as to heal.
