Failed to place building.
This keeps popping up for no reason. I have to leave the area come back and it places fine. Its a super annoying bug that keeps me from building.

I'm afraid I've had that happen since the game started and it still does that.
Right now it keeps telling me that land adjacent to me building is already claimed stopping my from completing my bridge.

There is nothing in view as far as I can see but there was a structure blocking me a week or so ago.

The structure is gone but the game doesn't seem to know that.

Work around is to not stand in the spot prior to placement.

IE: Stand in a spot, move out of that spot, then try to build in that spot.

I don't stand in the spot, I've found trying to build where a block was recently demolished causes it, and then other people running through a spot recently where you're trying to build, which I can't stop.

If you're in solo / coop or mp private, the quickest way to reset that issue is to log out and back in.
At least that works.

Yeah its a dedicated server. I've had issues where foundations shot below the placeable surface and then nothing will click to different blocks around it so I've had to ghost into the land and delete that one block

At times, placing a building item goes haywire and it just doesn't seem to want to snap in the place you want it, but more often it will snap to the next nearest point it can find. I know how irritating that can be.
It's happened more than I care to count, but at least relogging clears up that aneurism the game engine is having at the moment. So when you get back in, the piece will usually snap right into place where you want it to go without any further issues.
It acts as if it runs into a memory limit and a road block.
At least until the next time the engine goes temporarily brain dead.

Another thing that usually works for me as well as relogging is placing another building piece adjacent or close to where I like to place it, and then demolishing it, it may take a couple tries sometimes, but it's quicker than relogging.

I find just changing to a different piece, then switching back again, clears it most times.

So if your trying to place a foundation but it won't go, then switch to another tile, say a wall or ceiling, then go back to the foundation. It works 9/10 times!

But like the others mention if it's that 1/10 this doesn't work, you need to relog.

Not wanting to be overly cynical, but...thankfully this problem has only been around for 3+ years. At least it is a consistent issue across all the DLC as well the base game. Sorry, I know...I know, it's just frustrating that Funcom can't fix it.

We feel your pain brother.
The year is 2025 and I'm googling for fixes because funcom went guckguck3000 on our wallets and never fixed basic gameplay
