I’m Aussie so I appreciate jumpscars like this
So my new base is on the edge of the noob river during the day I keep hearing loud roars then one night I swam across the river and out of now were a alligator jumped out of the water to attack me I stopped and looked around and saw nothing like was a scripted event it only happens at night or early evening. When you swim you go straight into it.

any body else had this happen?

I remember someone said something like that in the official forums a while ago... it never happened to me, so I never seen it... but there was at least one other people that said it did happen to them too.

IIRC is in the thread called "Bodies of water are too safe" or something like that.

They are glitching in to the rocks and launching. If you want to duplicate it, put fish traps down and swim over them. You will launch out of the water as well.

No its at a set spot every time i swim to that one spot i hear a roar and the croc appears and does the same animation other behind me or in front
it jumps out of the water and dives down into the water and blinks throu the map.
iv duplicated it about 13 times now the only croc in that area is on the otherside of the lake no where near me or rocks
but thats good to know about the traps i might try that for funsies.

Yesss. That jump scare croc! First time that happened I literally jumped back in my chair. At the time, crocs *never* went that far into the water. I swim a lot getting around on that south river and run into him regularly. He never attacks or chases you. Just a big ole RAWR pounce and vanish.

Yep, happened to me a few times.
Different locations along the river.
Ambush attack, but fortunately for me it missed every time.
Startled the bejeezus out of me.
Every time now that I think of going down the river, it makes me pause for a moment before I get into the water.

Where is that? I'd like to go there and try it for myself but I can't recognize the place just by the looks of the screenshot :)

There was a giant one waling around by a pound, hit him with 6 combp's did not dent him, one hit to me in heavy armor 70% damage...."Run Forest Run"

I call him Gustave, and yes you should leave him alone since he's a Legendary aka a World Boss.

go to the exact spot i am on the map.
Swim around if you miss it leave the lake log out and in again and try again
somtimes it realy quick.

I don't understand what you really need to do in order to trigger the giant croc to show up.
i went there 30 min ago, swam accross this big area of water in 2 different directions (was really scared BTW :D) and couldn't hear or see anything .........................................
any advice?

It’s very quick like a blink wich is what makes the jump scare so good but it triggers like the ghost you need to be verry close to the trigger spot and if you miss log of then log in again.

The only steps I can say is go to the spot I am on the map and look for the large tree then exit the lake on the opposite side of the river face the tree you will see a bit of seaweed sticking out of the water slowly swim to it.
Listen for a roar and splash.

There are at least 3 of the monster crocs, aka world bosses. One in Gallamans Tomb, one by the pond just beside the oasis river, and a third below priestkings retreat. But the jump crocs are a scripted goodie to bring the world more to life. Much like the carcasses hyenas eat.
