Iron to steel ratio is way too brutal
5 iron bars for one steel bar is an extremley unfavorable ratio. Maybe reduce it to two or three. It shoudln't be easier and faster to cross the entire map and farm the new asgarth and surrounding npc's for steel than make it legitimatley for yourself.

Get a thrall smelter, a high teir one will significantly reduce the cost of making steel/hardened steel etcetera, will also reduce the cost of ore/iron conversion further making it more effective. Will also increase the overall speed of production. This is also true of every other craft from tanning, to woodworking and beyond.

Can't confirm that. My named smelter made 10 steel bars from 50 iron bars just some minutes ago.

I was stuck with iron for quiet a while for this reason. But with hardened steel tools and the right places to farm ironstone, the problem disappeared.

If you kill everyone in New Asgarth you get around 150 steel ingots per trip and the respawn is 15 mins. I never bother making ingots when is is easier to farm them.

Robbery was always the fastest way in mankind's history.

Slaves alwasy did (and do) the hard jobs for 'free'.

IMHO it's very balanced as it is. Smelter-Thralls would be useless. Same for Raids.

I agree, these guy's drop more steel then it's worth producing. Farming them is the easier option particularly if you build in that region.

I think making explosive's is much worse. Dragon powder is overkill on the resource requirements.

Smelters only speed up the process, they don't improve the ratio of iron to steel.
But Alchemist II does reduce the amount of tar you need.

The area just south of Tower of Bats got an amazing lot of iron. You can farm it in light armour even at level 15, just bring a mule and an extra pick :).

Asegard is level 50 about, you need heavy armour and it's thrall unfriendly.

BTW hardened steel is not worth the effort, because the quality of hardened steel is (far) below steel.
