Where do Pets go when you die?
Actually I think I know but I'd like confirmation.

I was making my first trip into the north, I had my faithful pack turtle following me, he is a fighter turtle who I've used as a pack animal for quite a while.

As I forged into the north I realized that my fur armor was not protecting me.

I ran south using my healing potions, and ran into the water swimming south for the other shore.

I didn't make it, but when I returned from my re-spawn point I was able to recover my body by swimming out from the southern shore.

But my faithful turtle was gone with all the valuable equipment he was carrying.

I went ahead and built a shelter on the southern shore and after a day I ran out of resources to repair my equipment and headed south for my base on the southern river.

I stopped and my place near the pirate ship for a while but eventually I ended up back at my house on the river.

When I entered the main room where all my tools are, what do I find?

My faithful turtle standing in the center of the room in the last place that I physically placed him.

I checked to see if it was really him and he still had all of the equipment on him.

I noticed previously that some thralls that had just vanished had really gone to the last place that they had been placed.

So that's what I want to know for sure.

Do pets and thralls who are left by telling them not to follow always go back to the last place that they were placed by picking them up and setting them down when you die or if a lot of time passes without interacting with them?

It appears that way, I know it didn't used to work like that, thralls formally just walked around in the area where you died.

Hi

I came back to say that once more I died while my pet was following me carrying a lot of good stuff.

I reclaimed my body and went back to my house, No pet.

The next day when I logged in my pet was there with all the gear he was carrying.

Pets and thralls are supposed to return to the last spot they were placed when they cannot follow you anymore, I think it is roughly 30 minutes it takes before they start returning :)

Thralls intend to patrol around and never find back.

Missing T2 Entertainer. Before hes gone lost, i saw him walking to the north.

I know that they used to just wander around until you found them, if you ever did.
But now it seems that Frillen is right and they return to the last place that you set them down.

Not where you told then to stop following.

This could be useful if it's reliable, you could load him with stuff, kill your self and travel back to your main house and still have all your stuff with you.

I'll experiment with no valuable materials involved.

This could have unreliable results depending on how you play...

If you play on official server, you will lose all your stuff and have to go back and loot your body, if you play singleplayer game you have the option to turn loot drop on death off, but the big question is how do thralls return?

If they teleport back to latest place they were put on guard, it might be safe for them, but if they start walking back they could run into obstructions, predators/thralls that gets aggroed by them, and I won't go into what can happen in the vulcano, let's just say that it is a very dangerous place for thralls and pets.

Again if you play on official server, one way to find out what happens is if you can get someone to watch and follow your thrall from a distance to see what they do when they start returning :)

Hi my point is that you load all your self on you pet, then you could transport without losing your stuff. But your point about wether he walks back or not is a good one.

In my SP server my spotted hyena spawned in the Desert with me after I died. Admittadly from falling damage, he wasn't attacking anything.
