No Life in the North
We are playing on our own private server and when we left the desert and moved on to the northern zone, we ran into one bear with a few cubs, but beyond that there have been absolutely no animals at all.
We've searched around much of the zone, restarted the server, looked for spawn rate settings in the admin menu, left the zone for a period of time and returned, but there are still no animals spawning anywhere in the north that we've found aside from that single bear and cubs when we first arrived.

Animals continues to spawn in the desert and the areas of the swamp that we've visited so far, but the north is empty.
This is where we want to build our base and it really sucks that it's totally void of life...

Does anyone know how to fix this or if it's a bug that's being worked on?

Trying to force spawn stuff didn't help, but we did end up finding some animals much further north so I guess it's just that southern half of that zone that's totally dead. It's weird and I still want a fix but at least the entire north isn't empty.

Not a bug huh, so this is how the developers ment for the game, to have areas of it viod of life and the only way to get past that is to force spawn them in.

As appologists go, this one is pretty epic!

^^ This ^^
Thank you! I love this game, but I'd definitely consider this a bug that has a negative effect on gameplay and wish it could be resolved :/

It's a side effect of the devs reducing spawns to semi realistic levels in some areas. Before the game left EA you couldn't run 20 feet without stringing along 3 or 4 wolves, a pissed off moose, the occasional bear, and a boar you're fairly positive you did nothing but look at but it's chasing you anyway.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your game, the northern part of the map has areas with big concentration of wildlife while others feels a bit empty, here's my experience...

  • TELITH'S ISLAND:
This island lies in the middle of a small lake in the south-western part of the North and most of this area has very little wildlife and thralls, it is sort of like a beginner area in the north.

  • THE BREACH:
This area has a small lake connected with a bridge to The Great Dam at the big lake that is between the snowy and grassy parts of the north.
This area has a decent amount of wildlife and a few small thrall camps.

  • NEW ASAGARTH:
The area around this town has a good amount of wildlife, especially wolves + a few Mammoth's, and besides the town there are several thrall outposts

  • THE WARDTOWERS & RIVERSEND:
The area around the towers and the river is a little less green and has a good amount of wildlife + thrall camps/outposts.

  • THE BARROWS & THE MOUNDS:
The area around the lake has a decent amount of wildlife, a thrall city, outposts and undead creatures + ruins.

  • EYELET LAKE:
This lake is a bit north of Mounds in the snowy part of the map, the area around this lake is infested with wildlife, Wolves, Mammoths, Sabretooths, Bears, Elks, Deers and a lot of other wildlife, it is in a way similar to the Savannah just south of the Spillway, however there are little to no thrall camps, but instead you will find Giants in the Temple of Frost and around it.
While it has a huge amount of wildlife + a lot of resources, it is a dangerous and cold place to live in, there are meteor showers which can hit and damage your buildings + you can't walk 10 steps without getting up to several predators hunting you at once.

I didn't mention the snowy areas north of the other parts since they in my opinion aren't really suitable for base building, it is hard to get around, there are very little wildlife and resources.

Again, these are just my opinions and observations, others may have different, but if you ask me then I would suggest building around The Breach or New Asagarth because they offer a good amount of everything you need without being too hard an area to live in + you are close to everything in the northern part of the map + easy access to the desert :)

If you want to check if everything is working as it's supposed, go to the Frozen Lake area in the north-west part of the map, and wander around there... that's the area where there's the biggest concentration of annoying critters in the game, IMO :P
