Where do I get hide/skin from?

I am a few hours in now. I can produce steel, and find literally anything but hide/skin.
I killed the little turtles, the bigger ones, deers, rabbids, people, hyenas etc.but none of them drops hide. Did I miss something?

build a tanner put the hides on the tanner along with bark. . then turn on the tannery and you will obtain leather and tar.

Thank you, but I confused the items (i play in german) I meant hides. Which animals drop them, do I need a special weapon to get them?

Daggers give you more hide exclusively, but a hachet will still give you some.

Almost all animals drop a hide of some kind. You need to use a dagger and the left mouse button to get hides of any kind. Hyenas, antelope and the turtles drop hides using a dagger. Crocs drop reptile hide/skin. Animals in the north drop thick and regular hides plus fur. I get two hides from each little turtle with a stone dagger. Hope this helps.

Actually I misstated, you need to use the left CONTROL button to use the dagger.

I have another question, where do I get bricks from?

Smelt stones in the furnace for bricks.

If you meant hardened bricks then:

1) firebowl cauldron -> Ichor + Twine = stone consolidant
2) bricks + stone consolidant = hardened brick

Bricks are produced by putting stone in the furnace.
