Can't place ladders
I am stuck.... like really stuck.

It's a n00b question, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.

I made ladders. I made frames for the trap door. I made the trap door. I installed all of of it. I surrounded it with walls, and put in ceilings.

Yet NOTHING I do gets the ladder to snap to anything and be placeable. It's not placeable between two floors, not placeable with trap door frames, not placeable with trap doors in the frames.... just not placeable at ALL.

What are the rules for ladder placement? How can I get one to get placed?

I cannot for the life of me figure it out, and no google search brings a result. no steam forum search brings a result, no youtube video shows how, not even the dev update video shows how...

How exactly do I get a ladder placed?

Any response is welcome... text, video, link to video.... whatever....

Ignore, unless you want the solution.

No connection to foundation blocks is a rule.

Are you saying it needs to connect to a foundation block or it must NOT connect to a Foundation block?

It must NOT under any circumstances connect to foundation block.

I'm confused. I'm trying to place mine from a second floor to a loft space. Like you it wont connect to anything. The foundations are on the ground floor. Why wont it work.

Ladders require the ceiling hatch-frame, otherwise they will not attach to anything. You may need to demo and replace but rotate it... might work.

So... I've got a ladder that goes up 4 stories in my tower. Each level I have a hatch that was placed into a ceiling tile. Once the hatch is placed, I can attach a ladder to it.

For those having issues... post some screenshots or a video. Maybe what you're doing is wrong, or you're experiencing a bug... idk... help us help you.

Because attaching a ladder to a wall is too complex. This makes me angry. I made some towers out of triangle foundations at the ends of an elevated walk way only to discover you cant attach a ladder to them. Sure you can climb them because climbing, but serisouly, I cant place a ladder on the side of walls or other structures? WTF

Well, it might make you angry, but you just added to my future mod project stuff. Thanks :D

I want ladders to be better than this. Should be like next to zero stamina cost at the very least. Otherwise they serve no purpose what-so-ever in their current state besides a bit of aesthetics.

If they can't/don't want to add a special animation for them, it at least needs something else.

I am able to clip a ladder to the top of a hatch frame and was able to do so to the bottom of a hatch frame all the way to the floor, but now I can only clip to the top of a hatch frame.. So much for a second floor to my island base.

You might check to see if there is a mod for ladders. The Sand and Stone mod (and a couple more by the same author) have spiral stairs now that work well in towers.

I don't do mods. I expect the game to function properly without them.

I found a solution, sort of. Firstly, as you know, there is a bug/design flaw, whereas ladders cannot be placed against a wall. A logical place for ladder--it will not go, so...

1.) Remove the wall where the ladder, all the way to the ground.
2.) Stick the hatch frame's SIDE against a wall. You may be able to make a temporary wall for this, but I have not yet tried.
3.) Starting from the top, place the ladder segments all the way to the ground.
4.) Replace the wall where the ladder will be against.

Oddly, you can indeed replace the blocks. This technique is repeatable. I have only tried it where the ladder ends up with the bottom sticking in the ground. It may work with the ladder resting on a foundation, but I have not tried it.

Remember: completely opposite real-life: you cannot put a ladder against an existing wall, but except for the normal gap, you can build a wall against the ladder. LOL!

Like the always-getting-stuck after dying bug, the ladder bug likely will never be fixed. : (
Otherwise, I have enjoyed playing Conan Exiles.
