You have to collect seeds. Building a planter doent somehow spawn every type of seed.

I agree100% perhaps a mod later?

You can get mods to make the game easier, sure.

when you plant something seeds tend to come with the plant...what is so hard to understand about that logic? You plant seeds gorw the plant get some seeds to plant more.

Yup, if you want it like that im sure you can mod it. collecting just 1 seed you can in theory in real life get unlimited seeds from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd harvest. In game you would easily beat farming.

He means for the planted plants, right now seeds are just a little bit of extra resource that you need to spend a lot of effort to actually get them. They're not a substainable way to actually farm them so it is usually better to just get your sickle out and smash some more plants instead of bothering with the plants and its fertilizer - especially the ones needing the better one which needs blood, which ironically seems to be one of the rarest resources in CE.

It's the only way to make the farming mechanic to make sense ...

the devs have stated in their dev streams that they dont want what they call "infinite famring machiens" planters are more of a way of maxamizing yield of collected plant materials.

Yeah you need more seeds. There are some great mods for farming, just wait a few hours for the popular mods to update and install whatever you want. Enjoy the game anyway you want. :D

I agree it makes little sense from an "actual real farming thats actual farming" perspective but its a game play mechanics choice. the Devs dont want you going out and getting seedsd for everything then never having to leave your base for more ever again.

Pretty sure there is already a mod or two that have that as one feature among many in their larger mods.

Which is, and will always be, a bad design decision. Literally the entire point of farming is to be sustainable, it's why the practice in games is called farming in the first place.

If your planter boxes can't replenish themselves, then there was no reason to have added them in the first place.

I agree. Its a stupid mechanic, put in to distract ppl from the lack of real mechanics being put in..... :steambored:

Are we playing the same game?
I mean, what choice would that be?
One more sickle swing vs. a long and annoying production chain to get fertilizer to eventually get the remaining plant stuff out of the seeds after another long waiting period. A single sickle swing on another plant is quicker and yields much more resources.
There's absolutely no gameplay reason to have it work as a more annoying and worse way to get the same result like another method.
Add a simple ~65% (testing) chance to get another seed out of a seed and you can actually farm in this game, with an off chance that you might run out if RNGesus hates you and make fertilizer work for more than one seed.
