Best tool for gosamer

I'm using my iron axe with the efficiency upgrade at the moment, but i was wondering if thats the best tool for the job. I know i get some with the pick too, but i haven't checked if its more or less than the axe and i haven't tried the cleaver. I know its not the skinning knife, that gives almost all chitin.

Use your hands for picking it up when you're in one of the spider caverns. More productive and you don't have to repair them. But for a tool to get it off of them, use a skinning knife.

I use the Mitra Ankh weapon/tool[conanexiles.gamepedia.com]. It will only harvest the silk (if any decides to drop) and it's easy to repair.

If you're playing solo, you may want to bump up the harvesting rate a little.

Don't waste your tools at all. In the desert biome, south of the Summoning Place, is a huge outdoor area full of spiders. There's soooooooooo much gossamer laying around that one run through there will give you so much damn silk, that you'll be tired of crafting it.

Nice info thanks. how many gossamers approximately at which harvesting rate?
I've just cleared the area of the giant spider queen and i got 139 silks out of it (harvesting rate is x2 for me) so 280 gossamers.

also kill spiders and havest them with the cleaver you'll get a lot more gossamer

Lol. i didn't know there was somewhere you could just pick it up. I think i've seen the spider queen in the distance before, but i haven't had the balls to go over and say hello yet. I'll go look around there.

As to tools though, i've now been told skinning knife, mitra's anhk and the cleaver. I have to say i've tried the skinning knife and that gives way less than an axe. I suppose i can just test it for myself (except the ahnk at the moment, i'm darkheto). I'm not sure if the kind of spider makes a difference. I've noticed a better drop from the spindly green ones than the furry grey ones.

You can go in the cave without making the spider queen spawn, just avoid the center of the arena if you're not ready to face her yet, because she is nasty (she only spawns once you reach the center of the arena/mainroom).

And about the other post, i have tried the cleaver as you suggested, and no it doesn't give more gossamer than a knife (about the same, maybe even less i'd say).

i'll try the axe next time BTW.

on the river is skittering cave, no spider queen in it. Just the non-poison spiders but lots of webbing to collect

So i was talking about the giant spider that walks around south of the darfari camp "Spinebreaker's Flank". I had no idea you could pick up the gossamer in and around this area and thats so much quicker than killing spiders even if there are a good concentration of them.

However if you're going to harvest gossamer from spider corpses I've found an axe or pick to give about the same result. I tend to use my axe because i use the pick more for other things so the pick's durability is best not wasted on spiders. But now that i know where to hand pick gossamer i wont bother anymore.

i come back here to give credit to "necrobile" and"the author (sorry mate too hard to write this one lol).
As he suggested, there is a ton of webbing and spiders behind the summonning place, so i was able to make more than 200 silks in a short time, so i thank you mate for your suggestion, good tipp!
And as the autor mentionned the hatchet gives more gossamer than both the skinning knife and the cleaver ( about 3 times more ) + some ichor. So i thank you too for your tipp.

north of the oasis between the 2 rivers, you will see spider webs out in the open.. its a rather large area where this happens and there is gossmar all over the place just pick it up.

No worries! The server I play on has a x5 harvest multiplier, so I tend to average over 600 by the time I'm done. Then I sit in the corner turning it all into silk while I make lunch and what not. lol

Before the combat update getting silk was a pain in the rear. The only way to get it was from harvesting spiders, and the drop rate wasn't good. What made it worse is that everything I wanted to wear needed silk. Once I saw this change, omg, that's where I go for all my silk needs now. lol

What makes it even better is there's iron and coal right nearby as well, so it's very efficient if you need other stuff. :)

At the risk of reviving an old discussion, I couldn't find this answer anywhere above.

I don't know if this came in a recent patch, but the sickle appears to be by far the best way to gather gossamer. Comparing to gathering just 1 by hand on standard harvest rate, an upgraded Steel Sickle will harvest 6 or 7 per hit.
There is a small canyon just south of Spinebreakers Flank (area with the spider queen), with gossamer dotted throughout the edges. Gathering here with the aforementioned upgraded sickle, I gathered easily over 800 gossamer in about 6 minutes.
