Is the hardened steel pick/hatchet worth it??
Since I got a bunch of black ice, I decided to make a stack of hardened steel. Once I started looking at recipes, I realized there is no hardened steel pickaxe(that I know of). So, if I want those tools for a higher yield, I'd have to utilize two slots on my toolbar again. I got spoiled replacing the axe with the sickle, and using my pickaxe for everything.

When I went to farm some items, I get 50 per hit with a pickaxe, but the hardened steel items yielded 65 stone/60 wood. That's not too big of a jump, so I figured I'd ask people who've used these tools more than I have.

Is it worth using hardened steel tools for such a tiny increase?? Hardened steel sounds like it'll be a pain to keep stocked for repairs, where steel is decently easy to get.

Pickaxe becomes useless on testlive (not sure if its a bug or not) since is can't collect heads.

On testlive
You get Harden Steel pick and axe, Black ice pick, Starmetal pick and axe and then Obsidian pick and axe. All way better then the Pickaxe and there does not seem to be any later tier Pickaxe. (Would be nice to get a later one to save on slots, but there currently is not)

On testlive, I did not even bother to learn Pickaxe (reset skills later and unlearn all iron tools etc and jumped to Starmetal)

if you are a casual farming go with the best production, if you are a dedicated farmer to your clan always use what you have the most access to, imo

Wait.
Obsidian?
What's the durability on that compared to other materials?

Its one mini step above acherion and star. currently on testlive its black ice > hardened > star > dragon > acherion > obsidian > legendary
Pretty sure its similar durability

Thanks for the responses, guys. I don't like not having as much space on my toolbar, but I found that by the time my pickaxe would've broke I not only got more ore/wood with hardened steel tools, but I still had 3/4's durability leftoever. Very worth it in that regard. :D

You know how nuts that really is?
Obsidian is basically volcanically made glass.

Is that also true for weapons? I don't even know what dragon and obsidian are but I thought there would be equivalent "end tier" materials for the different biomes that aren't better or worse than the others just different.

The legardy weapons from the chests (that you can only open at L60 but the bosses are really easy and you can kill the guys that drop the keys at L10 with a pike) are better then anything you can ever make.

No one makes weapons or shield now, just kill an easy boss, get a key, and open the chest for the best weapons in game. On offiacl servers I have about 60 of these weapons, so easy to get.

You will make armor but never make weapons or shield. Also you can use them at any level, so if your L5, get a L60 mate to give you a few

The Black Ice pick is better then the hardened steel. They do the same amount but the black ice is cheaper to fix.

Don't you need to take it back to the ice giant cave to fix it, though??

Black Ice is best, and you only need to go to the cave once to learn the recipe and to make them.
You can repair them as long as you know the recipe.

You know the cost to repair has gone up right? It now takes a hardened steel pick to repair it on testlive!
