So theres nothing to do? Oh no!
I suppose I imagined grouping up to go kill sorcerers who turn into giant snakes and fighting other players in viceral hand-to-hand. Climbing vile towers by rope and stealing huge gems. Falling into caves and facing a death knight with a shiny sword. This isnt this game, is it? Is there anything to do besides attack mobs and build huts? Have I just not played enough yet? Is the endgame a mastercrafted knit sweater? Are there even "quests" as we generally understand them?

PS is blocking a thing? Do you need a shield? My avatar seems to think "block" means "off-hand uppercut"

well in any survival game i've played i always seem to get plagued by the "so now what" syndrome. I love these types of games due to the build up phase where you are just trying to survive and get by, but once thats done it seems there is nothing to do but start over and starting over burns out quick to. I've always been told pvp is the answer to this issue but I find the same issue once you are in some big bad pvp group with little worry. Everyone else says these games are for setting your own goals such as building a tower to the sky or a road from both sides of the map.....sounds fun doesnt it. Not sure who your waste their lives doing that lol. I am afraid in most of these games it is as you put it, grind materials, build a hut, get gear and watch all you have fail you in the end game fight against boredom. I had heard this game had alot more to do with an rpg feel to it with quests and dungeon diving but that might have all been false

There are dungeons you can access, some instanced (more would be nice) and others small, noninstanced minidungeons. End game mostly involves pvp, dungeons, building your settlement/capturing thralls, etc. Here's a map with the location for most of the interesting stuff.

Dungeons have this icon: http://puu.sh/zxVAJ/c989de92d7.jpg
Use ctrl to block.

Also, I'd reccomend trying out the testlive build or waiting for the full release. The combat and stat/perk overhaul is in the testlive and there will be two new biomes in the release, a jungle and volcano biome, amongst other interesting things.

Thanks Alan. I agree that I may have jumped the gun on buying the game. I suppose I figured it was all but done this close to release. Its not the games fault, I was not expecting water meter gameplay though for Conan. Color me a little disappointed. So far anyway.

Yep need a shield to block, we just made a base and a couple outposts on each side of the map just to get foothold on an official server, just gathering mats and waiting for new content now

why are you buying a game like this if you have the attention span of a rat?
Mr. Huckleberry Feb 28, 2018 @ 8:08pm
Im just old and have different ideas about what Conan is all about. The harshness is on point, but it seems the other-worldy high adventure isnt. I didnt realize it was just a survival game.
Serrion Feb 28, 2018 @ 8:13pm
The short answer is there is no substantive end game in PvE. Build a base, build crafting stations, get thralls. At that point in the desert your done. You can explore to find new emotes or cooking recipes, do a dungeon or two but there isn't any real threat from creatures in the world and not much else to do.

If you move to a new biome it's rinse and repeat as you need a high tier of weapons and armor to deal with creatures that have more hp and do more damage than desert creature but they are essential reskins - bear = rhino; wolf = hyena; etc. - and human are just somehow significantly more hardy.

Now, PvP is just the same with other players to fight and their bases to raid. Maybe that's more interesting to you but it's more rinse and repeat but the reason to get high gear and progress through other tiers is to stay alive and dominate your foes.

Thanks for the map chicken. Exploration is a thing I can do. I've been informed there is something of a story on the map if you collect all the lore and put it together.

I'm hoping the Purge will help alleviate some of those end game "now what do I do" issues. Perhaps not all, but it would be fun to have 'hordes' (waves) of angry NPCs sweeping across the map to destroy any bases in their path (every so often).
Minlantius Feb 28, 2018 @ 9:33pm
They really haven't added any distinct story elements and there are zero quests. Right now all there is to do is fight and build. The reason for that is because that's what they wanted tested. Also there is a death knight in the game who does use dark magic on you. He's really the only fleshed out character boss and is located in the north in a place called black keep.

There is nothing more to do , you are right. The dungeons are boring , once you make them , you will never want to go there back. The problem is not "the attention span of a rat". The problem is that this game shows nothing new to you, it's just a generic game without anything special. The survival part ends in the first 5 min when you make a campfire next to a river.
Minlantius Feb 28, 2018 @ 10:51pm
I won't lie, right now they just started to improve pve aspect. They're making wildlife and npc camps more dynamic and radiant. From what I played of their work so far there's definitely going to be a fun pve aspect down the line.
I AM A STICK Feb 28, 2018 @ 11:17pm
No problem man, the game's definitely got its issues but I think it's going a step in the right direction. The new combat makes it a lot more engaging along with some tweaks to ai and the extra animations they're putting into the wildlife and whatnot adding a bit more immersion. It's definitely not for everyone, I mostly get my kicks out of building nice things and the combat.

Hopefully the things that got delayed such as the Purge will be added in sooner than later. Not too many survival games have PvE or melee focused combat that plays like CE so I hope they continue to refine those aspects. I'm assuming you're a big conan fan so you might get more enjoyment from the game if you join a RP-PVP or RP-PVE server. Some of them have cool little admin run events and I always found it cool seeing people make actual settlements rather than giant impenetrable box fortresses on top of cliffs. Might be able to engage with other players, a lot of them are very passionate about Conan lore and I think you get could some fun out of that.

-edit-

I forgot to mention if you want to try out the big combat overhaul, you can access the testlive servers pretty easily. Right click Conan Exiles on steam>properties>beta>opt into testlive. You need to download additional files but after that you're all set and good to go.

I didn't know that. I should've have chosen the server more carefully. I've started just today, built my place with 3 floors and now it already feels like the game's pushing me to expand my base just because there are no real immersive purposes/quests.
