Also, I'd reccomend trying out the testlive build or waiting for the full release. The combat and stat/perk overhaul is in the testlive and there will be two new biomes in the release, a jungle and volcano biome, amongst other interesting things.
If you move to a new biome it's rinse and repeat as you need a high tier of weapons and armor to deal with creatures that have more hp and do more damage than desert creature but they are essential reskins - bear = rhino; wolf = hyena; etc. - and human are just somehow significantly more hardy.
Now, PvP is just the same with other players to fight and their bases to raid. Maybe that's more interesting to you but it's more rinse and repeat but the reason to get high gear and progress through other tiers is to stay alive and dominate your foes.
Hopefully the things that got delayed such as the Purge will be added in sooner than later. Not too many survival games have PvE or melee focused combat that plays like CE so I hope they continue to refine those aspects. I'm assuming you're a big conan fan so you might get more enjoyment from the game if you join a RP-PVP or RP-PVE server. Some of them have cool little admin run events and I always found it cool seeing people make actual settlements rather than giant impenetrable box fortresses on top of cliffs. Might be able to engage with other players, a lot of them are very passionate about Conan lore and I think you get could some fun out of that.
-edit-
I forgot to mention if you want to try out the big combat overhaul, you can access the testlive servers pretty easily. Right click Conan Exiles on steam>properties>beta>opt into testlive. You need to download additional files but after that you're all set and good to go.
I didn't know that. I should've have chosen the server more carefully. I've started just today, built my place with 3 floors and now it already feels like the game's pushing me to expand my base just because there are no real immersive purposes/quests.
