Spiders never drop chitin

Are they supposed to drop this, because Im never getting any of it, got 5 chitin at the beginning of the game and never got it again from them, was there something that changed their drop or a problem with advanced tools?

Which tool are you using? I think a skinning knife is the best tool for it and I'm getting plenty of chitin with both iron and steel knife.

I get nothing of it, I get only gossamer and ichor using skinning knife, almost from beginning of game, must be some mod that is messing with it.
Finally found some scorpions, they are dropping using skinning knife. Maybe a bug in the game, bc I was using mods and I found some right in the beginning using hatched at spiders, really weird.

have you tried pickaxe?.. never been problem to have that mat, never actually need after one shield.

Yes, tried pick, axe, pickaxe, knife, butcher knife, with iron tools, steel tools and stone tools, none would give the chitin, but I got it all I needed from scorpions and sand reapers, with a knife, lots of it actually. I think its maybe a bug like pickaxe wont collect brimstone just using pick, or a bug caused by one of the mods Im using that affect durability or stacks for single-player. Wouldnt be surprised if it was a bug from the vanilla itself, considering steel pickaxe doesnt collect brimstone.
