Tattoos?

Been looking over a few tube vids and people are talking about builds and the importance or at least a reason to experiment with Equipable tattoos???
Can someone explain this to me please.
From the vids it looked like bits of paper you put in your hot bar but never really gave a good explanation of thier purpose or how to aquire them.

You mean the warpaints, those are made in a firebowl couldron. But before you can craft them you need the recipe and once made you just use them. Though you can only have one warpaint applied at the same time.

There are warpaints easy to make but those don't give you any attributes bonus. Then you have some that are harder to make but they give you a small attribute bonus and you have to pick which warpain you apply.
