Cooking thralls, How wheels of pain work and don't work.
Edit ====Fixed the title so people know what the thread is about. Will move our findings to the bottom of this first post.=======

So recently my little cadre of people got debating about how and what makes thralls cook faster on a wheel. Which foods specifically, and to a lesser extent which wheels work better.

I searched google and everything i found was close to a year old.

So before I waste a lot of time in single player with 30 wheels all using different foods etc, have any of you legitimately experimented with this?

So my setup was going to be 1 of each wheel with a named task master and the same t1 thrall. One group of 3 with basic gruel, the second group of 3 with maybe honeyed gruel, and other groups with different kinds of meat.

Then run frantically back and forth between them to see which ones cook faster!

From here on out, I'm going to refer to gruel as "slop", because gruel sounds like something I do in the bathroom after a heavy night of drinking.

===========Important stuff goes here==============
Ok so this is what I've got.

So I spawned in the 3 different sizes of ♥♥♥♥ (Wheels of Pain)

I put "Beli the Breaker" in each one. (task master)

I then spawn in a t1 Cimerian Alchemist. It was the first one listed on the spawn list.

First test was 3 t1 Cimerian Alchys, one in each wheel, Beli the Breaker in each wheel, and regular gruel in each wheel.

It took 2 minutes 20 seconds to cook on each wheel.

So that to me meant the wheels make no difference.

I then stopped using the bigger wheels in favor of the small one just for convienence.

Spawned in another Alchy, spawned in Honeyed Gruel, put them in the pot (♥♥♥) and started the timer.

2 minutes 20 seconds.

Next test, same type of Alchy, this time with Flavored Gruel, 2 minutes 20 seconds.

Next was Enhanced Gruel, 2 minutes 20 seconds.

Next was Roasted Haunch, 2 minutes 20 seconds.

So, type of food means nothing. The difference is burn time.

100 Enhanced Gruel = 10 hours
100 Flavored Gruel = 6 hous
100 Honeyed = 4 hours
100 Roasted Haunch = 27 hours

Keep in mind decay and server settings. Depending on how your server is set up your speeds may be faster or slower, but it doesn't change that food or wheel type makes any difference.

I took Screenshots with my mouse over the thralls so you can see their IDs and see that I used the same type each time, although I very seriously doubt a Cimerian Alchy cooks faster or slower than a Stygian of the same Tier.

I thought about testing whether "Fighters" cooked faster or slower but I was getting bored. So I spawned in a dozen dragons and let them rampage.

Choice of God has no effect, although Mitra and Yog were the only gods tested.

Also, without the named Taskmaster the same T1 Cimerian Alchy takes 5 minutes 50 seconds to cook.

I'm kinda dissapointed, But it is what it is.

I'm still happy for you having fun with testing. I did that too when I was new to the game. Next step: Crafting times (thrall, bricks, metal, fuel times) to optimize production.
^
P.S:God's do not effect breaking time, Nothing does. Pretty sure the Taskmasters/Slavers never use to either. Not sure if thats changed recently. (i havent played since highlands/snow max tier and mess around, atleast not on a offical server)

Post-P.S: Wheels of pain do effect the speed of breaking. But only for the successive thralls.
Slot one will always break faster then slot 6 for example.
Thats why people used smaller wheels for more important thralls, And why people say wheel of pains effect breaking speed.
Crafting speed is 50% reduce with t3 and t4 :)

Taskmasters worked for the most part. There was however a time when they didn't do anything. Breaking speed had never to do with the size of the wheel or even the slot's number.

Sorry, what you wrote isn't true at all. You can break an Arch Priest for example in any wheel at the same pace. All that matters is the level of the taskmaster.

I guess that time was like a year ago?^^

Hm. Is the wiki correct with I:0/25% II:33/25% and 50/50% for III and IV?
Oh. At modifiers it says crafting speed 2.5 and fuel burntime 1.5.

Everything that was written was true, and tested the same day of the post. How any of you have decided it was untrue is beyond me. Test for yourself with the same set up and you'll get the same results. Also the server settings AS I MENTIONED will change speeds, but it won't change the overall outcome

This thread confirms to me that meat can be used in the ♥♥♥. I tried it, and it turns out that the thrall I tried it on was simply higher level than the one I used gruel on. (I'm still quite new to the game.)

This does, however, raise the question of why waste all my precious plant fiber on gruel? I get so much meat that I can't possibly eat it all due to the shalebacks and ostriches constantly at my base, and hyenas seeming to guard all the iron deposits I can find.

Seriously, I'm stuffing meat everywhere in my base. "I think I have some room in my altar to Yog." has been a thought I had on several occasions. My alters, my crafting stations, everything contains some meats because I got tired of making more boxes for it.

Because later on without any taskmasker attached to the wheel, you will need to fuel the wheel for 24 hours in order to break t4 - named thralls. T3 take about 6 or 8 hours. (I think its 8, others say 6) But a stack of meat wont last that long while the gruel does - it lasts for 24 hours if I'm not wrong.
However, if you can let the wheel spin for the whole time with using meat - why not. If you find those eggs at killed thralls, they will sometimes have these older eggs. You can use those as well, they last 24 hours.
