Pet Behaviour
So, it took forever to get a pet, and I am gonna be absolutely overzealous about keeping it alive. With that in mind, what should I expect my pet to behave like in battle? I have been running through the desert to test this... and I ran into a huge spider (about a house-sized one), I do not wish for my best to fight it if it takes on a suicide-attitude towards it.

They can be good tanks. Use one light hit to initiate combat, block with shield and wait for pet to get aggro.

If you run away your pet will warp to you effectively disengaging from combat.

Don't name them and get used to losing them.

Thralls you equip can be way better at combat.

In pvp they do not help you against other players outside of raid times. You can not kill other players pets outside of raid time. Server setting may alter this, so be aware if you are on someone else's server.

When pet is following it will not attack anything unless you attack and damage it first or are damaged by something.

I have had 5-6 things chasing me with my pet and no issues.

Exactly, your thralls or pets will not initiate combat unless you strike the enemy within their 'aggro' range. Once you do, they are all in. Pretty sure if you get hit if you get hit by an enemy within their range, the same thing happens.

What about boss fights? I have dealt with two "triple skull" enemies with greatsword/dagger (takes a very long time and food), would pets fight to death? Enemies seem to focus almost entirely on me, but if pets are in fact, kamikaze fighters, then perhaps I should bring recruits, I can always gear them up.

Ah, I appreciate the information. Thank you! I preffer to play entirely on solo/co-op, so I have no intention of using pets in pvp. I was merely curious what their behaviour would be in combat, and seems to be they are going to behave as I hope. Something to consider with recruits too, I think pets will be much better for general enemies.
