All that leather!!!
I dunno if you have the same experience, but I got enough leather to supply a month long BDSM convention in the capital of a major country. I need all the tar, so the tanner never stops. I am even playing solo, I could imagine in PVP it would be much worse, because of the need for a production line of explosives. Unfortunately I do not have a purge thrall that can make hides into tough hide before tanning. So I have no idea what to do with it. Does anyone have a usage for them, or do you all just scrap them?

My experience with the leather is identical to yours.

I need the tar to make steel. But the by product leather I hardly use at all.

So as soon as tannery can't except any more hides from my inventory. I discard all that leather!

And have a massive bag on the floor next to him for several minutes. A bag so big Santa would be proud to use it! :D

Yeah, fill tannery with bark and hide, press play and wait, come back and take tar, drop all the leather, fill the tannery again rinse and repeat..
Funcom really should invent some use for that excess leather. If my character is low level I usually craft rugs from the leather to get the extra xp, but later in game leather is just waste.
I picked up the saddle maker thrall and opened a tack shop. We outfit all the camels with the finest of saddles (that nobody can ride). Just kidding, but yeah, LOTS of leather.

It makes me wonder if an original dev plan was to use leather in a similar fashion.

How much time/energy do you invest in equipping your thralls?

Do you just leave them in the armour they come out the wheel in?

I try and use as much leather as possible crafting lining as they stack to 100 (at least). If you wanted to take it one stage further start crafting hardened leather ironically I have a massive surplus not of leather but of thick leather.

I'm singleplayer without purges so I only outfit the thralls that I use out of base - they get the best I can craft.

Base location makes all the difference in whether you end up with excess leather or thick leather. I remember my noob days down by the river jonesing for some thick leather. My Sepemeru and Mounds of the Dead bases are awash with thick leather. Hardened leather requires enough gold that many can't spare easily. Used to farm hardened leatrher it through the dismantling bench at Mounds but the last update curtailed the Cimmerian armor loot quite a bit. Once I finish my network of maprooms I'll devote more alchemical to those leather upgrades.

And yes, I'm totes confuzzed bye "tuff hydes" repherantz. ;-)

The tanning brings out my inner hoarder so I stash it. I got way more than 50.000 of it right now. That would be one massive bag!

I found chairs, but didn't think of rugs. I'll have a look at the Artisan table!

They all get custom armor and weapons. I also usually dye them. But as it stands, the army as 35 something strong. I have enough leather to make over 100 Flawless Epic full sets of heavy armor, and if I committed all my stash of backup hides and what not maybe 200. But just at 100 sets of armor that is about 23.000 alchemical base. I am NOT going to go harvest some 11000-12.000 gold coins for that! Also the demands in hardened steel and steel reinforcement would FORCE me to get more tar, which means - GET MORE HIDES! So, making more armor would make the situation worse, not better!

Really? That confused you?

No, why do u think I intentionally misspelt confused. Was a tongue in check reference. Why start calling something by another name for what benefit?

Calling it "tough leather" isn't even a shorten version of thick leather and when game already includes Hardened Leather, "tough leather" can be far more easily misunderstood or misconstrued.

Maybe because I was at the end of a long sleep deprived day when I made the post? You can find a lot of this in my post history, if that sort of thing amuses you. I also call corrupted versions of creatures for demon "whatever it is", and I do that early in the morning, well rested and with a half of a cup of coffee in my belly.

But FWIW, this kind of humor has a tendency not to carry on the interwebz, unless people know each other, or you use emojiis. That is what they are there for, to add meaning to the text, without further text being added.
