So to get black ice as a new player we now need to die 100 times plus, just to get some black ice to make hardened steel, and the items that protect you!.....Right!! And that's assuming the areas aren't occupied by high level players waiting to jump you.

Who's idea was that?

yeah its very bad. and all those changes recently are against new players. iam really at a point where i want to give up. i mean i do not know what will come next, but it seems to get harder with every patch and people are way ahead on all servers.

private servers arent an option for me. too often admins will just cheat and stuff :/

Yup or add a mod they have no clue that it might mess the server up. I will never play on a private owned server. They cheat for friends if you don't kiss there ass they will ban you.

Can't understand this decision too. Hardened steel is a mid level resource, if you need black ice for it you must go to the north underequipped and be killed.

This kind of forces you to chose ymir as starting religion.

It's up there, but I'd say making combat as exciting as freshmen tryouts for chessclub is worse. But hey, why just screw over pvp & pve? Why not make building painful too?

I don't know why they changed the recipe for hardened steel, but I also don't really see the fuss over the materials. You can get black ice (relatively) easily with cold resistant armor and a single spiced food/drink. One node alone should net you enough to at least make hardened steel gathering tools, which should set you on a solid path to working your way to endgame. And I tend to find I'm drowning in black ice if I'm not explicitly building some sort of super fortress.

I personally wish ichor was more readily available. It always feels kind of lame to go south and kill spiders/locusts just to get a decent supply, and putting spoiled meat in the fluid press doesn't yield enough ichor for the time invested in killing undead and butchering them.

Edit: forgot to mention nordheimer/cimmerians tend to drop hardened steel semi-frequently as well, which does help when you start reaching the point you can get hardened steel.

While black ice isn't as widespread as brimstone it can be found it much larger quantities than brimstone.
There are so many ways to keep you warm while harvesting black ice already from level 30-40 and hardened steel can only be unlocked from level 50 which means you have even more ways to keep you warm.
Also there are several fairly safe routes to black ice deposits with little to no predators around.
Brimstone is while widespread a resource that is used in many recipes, so if you play on a crowded server it can be a bit difficult to get good amounts of it, so I actually think it is a welcome change + they even halved the steel requirements for hardened steel :)

Lolwut? Black ice doesn't even come close to brimstone. Hell it doesn't even come close to just Shattered Springs. And at the springs, I don't have to sacrifice 5 pieces of encumbrance gear + eat/drink to survive...i just need a mask.

I just did a test just going through the the hallway towards the Warmaker boss room in Klael's Stronghold(warm place with black ice) and got 2651 black ice in 1 run using a starmetal pickaxe, and this isn't even the best place to harvest black ice :D

I also did a run through Shattered Springs with starmetal pickaxe and got 2198 brimstone which is a lot lower than what I got from Warmaker Dungeon, so your point is what??

The difference in percent would be the same no matter what tool you use ;)
