I'm not saying it has to be nerfed or looked at, (the boss that is) I'm just wondering if it's not a bit too much considering the pre-boss waves really wear down your tames and thralls (not that it'd matter, my 6 III Fighters got minced in 1 spin-attack from the main boss, not even funny, those meatshields got one shotted altogether and they're not easy to obtain)
That is unless you're a masochist.
Afaik, there aren't any achievements for difficulty.
My base was situated at the split stream just across from Telith's Island.
Yeah, I got the regulars, the large ones, then a few thorny ones a couple of times, then some monsterous King Rocknose (final boss) that nearly wiped out what I had left. Most of my pets and thralls were wiped out. I managed to take him down just as he was starting on my last building.
Even with my damage multiplier set to 3X and NPC damage set to 0.5, I still got stomped.
I managed to avoid some attacks on later games by setting up diversion "sacrificial" bases.
After that, I decided to try a peaceful existence without the purge enabled.
If you change your damage modifier, your bow attacks will become more effective. It still won't be easy, but you'll do better damage.
One other thing. Alchemist- Poison gas. Arrows and Poison gas = poison gas arrows - amazing.
I'm actually planning on making a base on top of a massive tree (the ones you can't chop down) at the top left outside of the Unnamed City, there where the rhinos and tigers are. I figure that if I only have to protect the stilts (if I make any) then the Purge can't wipe my base out even if I fail. It'll be a cool little feature then, rather than an almost-guarrunteed death sentence if you don't have 8+ greater pets or a naked madlad with a shield running around a literal mountain trying to kite it.
I think the next base I'll build will be in the middle of a large pond.
Purge will spawn in your base instead, skeletons or something else. If the Purge cannot reach your base via normal means, it will find a different way.
I wouldn't be able to purely build a treehouse that the purge can't reach, I'd have to build stilts for them to attack. Admittedly stilts are very easy to defend since it's so small and you can move around them quickly. They're better than a massive base on the ground that you'd need to run around constantly.
Though if you fail a defense and you die, you're probably not gonna see your bed when you respawn since if the stilts fall you've basically lost everything. It'll all just collapse. Still it's a neat idea I saw on some vids and I really like it. I just survived another rocknose "avalanche" and the main boss couldn't touch me or my base (Still lost all my newly tamed greater hyenas, go figure) I'm a little more used to fighting him now, and I made the Blackheart Hammer + Silent Legion armor, heavy upgrades from what I used last time.
To me stilts are awesome, you should defo try it even if you're not building a treehouse base. You can build your base on a mountain-side and connect it to the ground with stilts and it'd still be awesome.
Important note: I have no idea if the purge would be pulled to Foundations or Pillars, so I placed foundations underneath the pillars/stilts just to be safe, it ensures they won't spawn in my base (or do other cheeky things to get to foundations) and I built the normal foundations, not the fence ones.
I'm not gonna test it cuz chances are 2 separate foundations will count as 2 separate bases, so if they purge my tree-base without stilts they might spawn inside of it cuz they can't reach it. That's why I used a foundation under the stilts to make it count as 1 building so they can reach the bottom.
