Yeah ive started noticing that too, but even that doesnt always work :/
The animal spawns in the areas I usualy traverse is either heavily reduced or there is nothing there. And as a little twist: In the empty areas the spawns can come back, blocking your path, even if you just passed trough it in an 'empty state'. And yes, hunting animals can take a really long time, and take you far, because theres a only few animal to be found...
My solution so far will be to gear up on daggers (didn't use them before) to get more skins...
Close to my base I somethimes get almost no wildlife, sometimes a Rhino, sometimes an Elephant.
However, if I die the game always seems to spawn twice the amount of creatures into the world.
The spawns are random from what I understand. I do know in the SP game, they all do not spawn at the same time to take some of the load off of your system. Also, the spawn points are presets and they will wonder off from those (both SP and server games) which can result in groups in close proximity to each other. With the AI, I am guessing we will see a lot of blood baths among the wildlife.
But fingers crossed it gets fixed in the next patch ^^
The do spawn in the Live SP build now. You might have to leave the area and come back to it to see them. I do know that I am getting all the spawns I am supposed to near my base in the current Testlive build.
