What we going to get for sure is some form of demon summoning and probably some kind of necromantic spells death touch like (how effective that would be instead of wielding a hammer is questionable, but sorcerers are feared for their dark powers - however in sword and sorcery stories sword normally gets the upper hand).
In fact did you notice there is a bunch of magic already in the game? Potions of various kinds, turning snakes into magical arrows, even fireball hurling can be acoplished with the orbs. All of those are not the barbarian everyday weapon, but a magic user repertorie.
Also, the priests of Set are aways sorcerers, so it makes sense snake magical arrows are craftable by those.
The set priest teacher even talks about how the bracelets suppresses the sorcery, but you can use corruption from the ruins to weave spells and summon an army
things like..transmutation, conjuration, psychic manipulation, illusions, things that would allow you to effect a wide variety of things.
while keeping it in the realm of "magic has its costs" .
perhaps using your life force as teh 'source' of the magic, so every spell you cast/use the more life drains from you. perhaps similar to corruption the more you use it the more your health gets reduced till you 'relax'.
so that spamming it does have consquences.
And Joel even mentioned a few weeks that they had like a basic script on casting spells so there is progress on it.
But as mentioned, it is all about priority. They need the animations, the graphics, the function and all that.
And with a release date, my guess they are putting some feature lower on the list in favor of more features like more biomes, combat system, dungeons and of course bug fixing which they can do in this time frame.
And I'm sure plenty of people are saying "oh we want this over that" or "oh push back the release date" and it would be nice if they did but they got shareholders to answer to so it's a sacrfice they had to make.
They set the bar too high(again) but I'm guessing they weren't counting on having as many issues as they been having(and still is) which really screwed up alot of their plans which ♥♥♥♥ happens. I'm hoping for a smooth sailing from here on until release(probably not) so that they might get like sorcery out just after release but we will see.
yah i see your point, its just i was really hoping this game would be farther along than it is. not to sound ignorant of game design, but i had really high hopes for this game and for the most part they have not let me down, its less fluid than i thought it would be but its mostly there. i guess the best thing to do is wait and see how things pans out.
But they have promised post-release support both with paid DLC and free content in which I'm sure sorcery falls into the latter.
It is very possible that they did purchase it on day 1 and stopped playing due to the issues the game had at that time.
