In the editor folder if you double click "ServerSettings" it should open in notepad, scroll down till you see "ThrallConversionMultiplier=1.000000" and change that one to 2.0 or 3.0 than go save it or hit Ctrl-S. Now when you restart you solo game it should be alot easier to tame thralls.
Smaller is faster. The multiplier is literally the multiplier. So if a thrall takes 1800 seconds, setting the multiplier to 0.2 will make it 0.2 x 1800 = 360 seconds while setting the multiplier to 2 will make it 1800x2=3600 seconds.
No you shouldn't feel dumb as hell, this is totally insane. No one who isn't suffering from the last stages of malaria would ever think to make CRAFTING SPEED MULTIPLIER be less by making the number smaller. I can't even believe how asinine this is.
For example, about this setting the description is :
I mention it because I noticed that a lot of players don't know that there is an official manual.
You can force the taming speed to update to new server settings by adding or removing a taskmaster thrall to the wheel of pain thrall slot.
