I know there's ways to host your own server but I am not nearly computer savvy enough to even think about going that route.
But, basically speaking ... if you're running a server from your own machine:
Playing Solo/Coop .. you're still running your own server instance (So in this case it cost you nothing except what you might have to pay your IP for bandwidth usage in Coop with your friends joining you).
# A good thing to keep in mind when wanting to run your own Coop server (for your friends to join you) is to make sure your machine has the "beef" to handle the extra load.
## In setting up your own Coop server on your machine, there are certain procedures you must follow "to the letter" for it to work.
But, still you have to be able to foot the bill for yourself (just in case).
I paid in advance about 130.00 US +/- for a full year rental that can host 20 players.
As suggested, use the steamCMD.
The difference is, if you have an older system that does not have the graphics to run the game, use that machine. As long as it has the recommended cpu and at least 16GB of ram (officials use 8gb) it will work. 32gb is better if you plan on running any mods from what I have read in the forums.
