Vaults on Foundations
So. Ive seen this a couple of times, and I guess it has to do with the vault getting bigger at the bottom and that bottom going through the ground a bit - but - how close do you guys put foundatins to your vaults if you keep them contained in a structure? Ive seen two vault pop now when the foundations that arent touching them on the surface break.

I have placed them on foundations used to level the location. Also have seen YouTubers place them on ceiling panels and then hide them in a building. Guessing it is just personnal choice.

I don't know, now, but on PvP, you USED to destroy the vault set on a foundation if you destroyed the foundation. I played on a server that mandated ALL vaults be placed on foundations to allow reasonable destruction of, and hence, looting of vaults.

If the foundations are low and the vault is on top, they hardly take any damage I have found.

Put vaults on the ground if you want maximum security. Yes, vaults get destroyed if you destroy a couple of foundations beneath them but the amount and which ones depend on the angle of the vault. Sometimes 5 foundations are enough. Another time you need like 8.

I know this is offtopic now, but I adress it. If you consider how strong a vault is (600,000 HP) it is actually not even worth it to build a massive building around it. I could spam vaults all day. Actually I just started doing so on an official server. Next week I guess I'll have like 50 or 60 vaults all over of the map. Keeping the alpha tribe busy ;-).

Conclusion: For me it would be fair enough to increase the costs of a vault by the factor 10. Yes, ten times the costs.

DON'T PUT YOUR VAULT ON THE GROUND.
I put 2 vaults on the ground last night and when I logged in there were 2 bags of loot sitting on the ground where my vaults were. Nothing in my event log about them getting destroyed. This also happened with 2 map rooms that I placed on the ground.

I also recommend to put Vault's and chests on ground for max security in case of some patch fail, decay of foundations, raiding and so on. But i have experienced that Vaults are decaying fast and drop a bag if your base next to it get demolished when decayed, but I am not quite sure of the detailed mecanics here...if for example the vault is out in the wild with your base not close to it, how long before it decaying?

This can be a bug in the last patch, but i am not sure yet.

If you place a vault now you want to put some foundations right next to it since the solo decay time right now is something about 4 hours. Check with a repair hammer before leaving the spot. Same with fish traps et cetera.

All items without foundation seems to decay in 24hour. even torches, if not connected to foundation.
