So i guess im a little confused as to what server client you might be talking about. If Conan comes with server client software (some co-op games come with server software) and thats what youre talking about, then we should be golden.
If you mean a program such as Hamachi, it wont work. Anything where data packets have to be sent/recieved over the internet wont work.
We need to be able for me or her to host so that the packets are only sent/recieved between the two computers.
Thanks for the info.
If I was you I'd give it a go, and if it doesn't work Steam offers a refund if you haven't played longer than 2 hours.
After you've set up your very own server (yay!) you can insert your LAN IP into the steam server favorites (e.g. 192.168.X.X) and you're good to go. Since you set up the server with password and restrict it to two players AND only connect via LAN (giving you a nice ping and therefore less lag and stuff) you can safely play with your wife without other player interfering.
EDIT : Since many do not know how to insert own favorites into steam servers : Open up steam. In the upper left corner above the "SHOP" button you should see a smaller tab named just "steam". Click on that and then on "servers". Under the favorites tab you can add a server, in this case the local IP (192.168....) and the game's port (should be 27015 per default) (for example 192.168.72.12:27015).
Afterwards fire up Conan Exiles. You will find your LAN server when clicking "online game" under the favorites tab.
Not that I am saying go play Ark (lol) but you're wrong about the not being able to LAN.
With ark you dont even need the steamcmd thing to play over your lan - you just make a bat file that loads the server on one of your machines. it runs in the background while you play.
I did it for my family ark server
conan is a little more detailed to setup and needs the steamcmd i think.
Just to point this out, ARK is LAN capable and always HAS been since it came out, you just need to setup a dedicated server which then on the server browser main menu you select lan on the search button. Conan works the same in the way that you just need to setup a private server.
Follow other's advice and run the server and use steam fav's to connect to lan IP address.
Then random people join. Happened to me until I figured out why.
We hadn't made any changes to it though to remove it like that. We both got on and it made us put in the password. Couple hours later while were playing a player comes to where we are. Either they brute forced the password or hacked right past it. We shut it down then and there. I did a report on them on steam but I am sure that will not do much if anything. The server install didn't make a blacklist like some are saying on here so not figured anyway to ban this persons steam id. Personally I would like a whitelist and not have LAN server listed.
