Building with gates, help please
Hey all, I'm running into a snag when using a gate as the front door of my building, and I'd love to hear if anyone has a fix for this issue:

The gate sits in the middle of a foundation, obviously, so since walls wont line up with the sides I use a stack of foundations on either side and then connect the walls to that. I then went and attached wall panels and sloped panels to the top of my gate, since I want a large building with a sloped roof. The issue I'm running into is with the rest of the roof panels...since the gate is in the middle of a foundation, the very top sloped roofs don't match up with the lower sections which are mounted on the side walls. Sorry, I don't have any pictures, or it'd make it simpler. Hopefully you can envision what I'm describing.

I'm fine having the top layer of sloped roofs not line up with the lower rows, but then when you get to the rest of the building they don't line up either and it makes holes. So I guess my question is, does anyone have a fix for how to overcome mounting a roof to the top of a gate.

I totally agree. I don't use the large gates anymore barbecue of these limitations. Plus it gives ample room for an exploding jar to be placed right in front of the gate. Just makes no sense to use them to me unless you're on a PVE server.

For sure, in PvP gates have huge limitations. The door itself is very weak, and as you said, a shelf for explosives. If they change it back to explosives being placed on stairs, that will become less of an advantage for regular doors, but for now, its silly to have huge gates be a weaker set-up than doors.

But I don't want to get too far off on a tangent, since this particular structure does not need to be PvP proof, it's for showing off, and the building limitations are making it tough.

If you put DOWN a Fence Foundation on the Out-Side of 3 Blocks, You then Place the GATE :)

Also Put All of the 3 Fence Foundations in a Row.

Sometime it makes the Gate Facing IN or OUT. Then Reverce the Laying of Fence Foundatiun.

Good Luck :) Also if U have the Room Put the Gate on Lower Foundation then Build Foundations arounf it. But be aware U will Have to use Floor Blocks Also to level 2nd Row of Foundations. U will then not have as High of a Gate /w Doors. I will Post Pictures on Public Screen Shot's

Confirmed, this is how I do it, fence foundations first works for me.

THANKYOU "Badmagic" & Yes Maybe I Did Not Explain it the way I do Mine? Yes U can put Fence Foundation's First But U can run into Problems with the Rest of your Foundation Placements :)
(1) FIRST PUT YOUR Reg Foundation's Down All of Your Foundations you need for your Building. The First/Outter Row Edge or the foundation is where you want the GATE is where U Put the 3 Fence Foundation's Any one the diff Sand-Rock-Armor Fence foundations.
The Great thing about putting your foundation down first is all the weeds & rocks showing up through them will be Hidden with a Second Layer and if you want a Shorter Gate you can install the Gate on the Lower Foundation. Yes it Works See Pics
